Phoenix won Game 1 last night with a nice pitching effort from Ferrer and Brebbia - combined to hold them 5 hits and 1 run. The bats weren't exactly on fire but got 9 hits and played some small ball to get the guys around the bases and home.
That is a big conference win. We are out of options for picking up a win against a big time out of conference team so we need to rack up as many wins in SoCon play as possible to keep the postseason chances high.

Anyone know how the weather will affect the game today? Will it pass by the 6:30 start time so they can get it in still or what?

bhill, there still are 3 big OOC games on the sked, but only 1 being viewed as a marque regional matchup (UNCW).
This is a critical series to win. The team wins one more game against CoC, it puts us in a good position. They sweeps the series and we're in the driver's seat with the series at GSU possibly deciding the regular season championship.

I know there are still other OOC games, I just do not view any of them as being on the same level as UNC, Clemson or ECU with regards to them being big games (maybe throw NC State in there as well).
Of what is left UNCW is probably the best team we play. I guess you are counting Wake as the other 2 big games - which they are as far as being an ACC school that is nearby, but Wake is not really that good of a team in my opinion. They are only 13-22 on the season.
I think this series and continuing to roll in SoCon play is much more important than any of the OOC games. Iknow that the tourney champ gets the bid, but I feel that winning the SoCon regular season, especially if it is by a good margin, would help greatly in getting into the post season.

Bats were silent all night and then a big rally in the bottom of the 8th ties it up at 4... this would be a great one to pull out after Renfro pitched a really solid first 7 against us.

Sera pinch hit leads off the inning with a single. Takes second on a passed ball. Steals third with one out. Harry Austin singles to bring him home! Elon Wins, Go Phoenix! What a come from behind win!
Already have the series win, which is huge. Now a chance for the sweep tomorrow!

I'd love to see Serra in the leadoff spot and Luce n Swim sandwiching Pritchard. I see alot more runs being scored there. Would love to see Luce and Swim hit line-drive to grounders instead of line-drive to pop-ups with their swings.
Nice win tonight.

Chalk up that saturday win to the Elon Alumni. Strong showing by them. They made the move to the CofC dugout and really got in their heads.

HP threw literally the kitchen sink against us obviously it's a bigger game to them throwing 8 pitchers... sad We were not up to play these guys at home...

Yeah, that was not a good game to lose to a team that is pretty weak, but as said they were more up for us than we were for them... need to beat ODU to at least split this midweek set with two weaker teams and gain a little momentum back before the trip to play GSU, which is huge in how the SoCon playes out.

There are a lot of things I could say about the High Point game and about a "Top 50" rpi team playing a team like HP, but I'd probably regret it. Just suffice it to say I can't understand why a team like Elon would ever have a problem with High Point. As Ray Lewis said on Saturday, "you can't coach desire". Pi$$ poor outing.
