The guys fought hard without Lucas and won @ Furman. They are now 2 games up on Samford and 3 up on App st. with 6 games left in conference (4 @ home, 2 on the road). Sebastian and Tanner stepped up in the game and made some big shots. Is there any word on the status of Lucas? The BTN said a right ankle sprain that would be day to day. We have two big home games this week with App St. on Thursday and WC on Sat. The crowds at Alumni have been great and I would expect full houses for both games. I think we will be the number 2 seed in the Socon tourney with a bye on Friday.......all depending on how Lucas is and the health of the rest of the team. Your thoughts?

I was impressed with the team's ability to stick together to overcome a large deficit and gut out the win. Furman obviously smelled "blood in the water" and had an opportunity to take advantage of our emotional as well as physical set back. I've said it before, great teams find a way to get the win even when the odds are stacked against them. With our starting point guard out for the rest of the season and the top scorer, shot blocker and arguably the soul of the team goes down in the first 20 seconds of the game the rest of the team could have easily rolled over and played dead, & would have been forgiven by most. But they didn't. They collected themselves and rose to the occasion. This was an an exceptional win given the circumstances. I'm very proud of this team.
I heard the post game interview with Coach Matheny. He said they were trying to get him ready to come back into the game but couldn't get past the soreness. With this info, my guess is that the injury isn't a season ending type of problem. The team travels with an exceptional athletic trainer and, I think, an orthopedic surgeon, so they would have known early if there was a severe problem. It is possible, I'd guess, that he could miss another game or two, but we'll have him back at least by tournament time.

Winning on the road, minus 2 starters, is big. Especially when one is the team's leading scorer.
Here to hoping a speedy recovery for Troutman!
