Samson having his 4th or 5th stellar game of the season. all else is about the same. CofC the second most hapless team of the CAA with 8 losses in the last 9 games (I think).

Good to see Samson shoot it well. Must read this board.

I forgot they even played tonight. Looks like they continue to regress. Judging by the box score they were outclassed in every facet of the game by a team that was in equally dire straits. If they are going to be this bad, would it be too much to ask them to make free throws? They honestly can't even execute the little things.
Matheney looking a little silly at the moment.
Go Phoenix!

Totally out played in all facets of the game. Much of the blame has got to go to the coaching staff for not recruiting properly over the past several seasons. Concentrated on the guard positions and completely left out the post players. I'm not looking for a super star at the 4 or 5 position just a player or 2 that play hard smart BB under the rim willing to protect the paint. You don't have to be 7 foot to have the smarts to block out, grab a rebound and move some bodies out of the way. Fundamental basketball. Shoot Defend Execute. We are lacking all 3 facets of the game and please don't tell me we're missing 3 starters. Luke Eddy started a total of 2 games, Dawkins never started and Winters is a role player off the bench. Poor recruiting

Amen I have been saying all along that this team is poorly constructed. No reason we should have this issue this long into a staff's tenure.

Either this team has dramatically slowed down or every other team has sped up. We can't play decent D because our foot speed is dreadfully slow. We looked like a high school team in transition last night. No fast breaks, no quick ball movement and totally embarrassing on defense. Just couldn't watch anymore after about 7 minutes to go. Too painful.

At this point, fire Matheny. This amount of problems 6 years in is inexcusable. Lack of proper recruiting, bad game plans. And to start well and end in what could be a long losing streak..... If football is going to be allowed to suck, then basketball should step it up. We need a new coaching staff

It is pretty simple. Nothing inside. Nothing. Who is recruiting for this team. Six four guards galore but nothing even resembling a big. Next year more six four guards coming. Just recruit big. Small teams play a 2/3 zone. Why don't we try it. What we are doing is not working. That silly trap leaves us in terrible position. It is not working coach. Syracuse and duke are not afraid to play zone why are we. Pack it in we might even get a rebound. Foul shot shooting is ridiculous. Stay on the line these boys are falling backward. Coach get a big man. Tony is second string on our high school team and we are not even good. Who ever is recruiting your big men must go.

A couple of things.
* I don't believe that he should be fired, yet. However his performance over the past two years has been troubling. A veteran team flops last year and then recruiting debacle that is the team now is a major concern.
* He is Blank's guy. His hire. I do think Blank should be under some heat. After all, Blank is a basketball guy. Swepson flopped and our hoops team is not improving.
* It is interesting that he has a young staff that should be able to recruit. However, they have not. Look at the staff. Good guys like Matt - but they have no experience on that bench.
I want Matt to succeed. However, we are regressing. Badly.

Very troubling when you look closely at the recruiting classes over the last several years. Sabato's a bust and his value has peaked and shouldn't be a starter. Contributes nothing to the team and should be a bench player. Hairston hasn't shown me anything and looks lost out there on the court. The coaches are not recruiting and need to be replaced. Your value is what you bring to the team and looking at their performance in recruiting time to make some hard choices and revamp the coaching staff.

what about Jack George? Have we given up that he will be a contributor next year? He looks awfully skinny, which I think is why he was red-shirted this year...but after reviewing the numbers...he is 6'10" 210 pounds...checked what Lucas weighed his freshman year...6'10" 205 pounds. Lucas got up to 228 by his senior year.
I know Jack wasn't heavily recruited by schools, but you slide him in to replace Winters (he can't be worse than Winters, no offense to Ryan Winters) and add 240 pound, 6'8" Brain Dawkins into the lineup...plus get back Luke Eddy and all of a sudden we look like a program that can compete immediately next year.
Being our first year in the CAA and having such a young group, I would not be surprised if Matheny sacrificed a few more wins this year to build for the future by keeping Dawkins on the bench (he qualifies for a medical red-shirt, right? if not, then this theory doesn't make as much sense) and sitting Jack George to beef the kid up and get him understanding the system better.

First, let me say that the subject of firing Matheny is simply a non subject, as it should be. Matheny hasn't been given nearly ,the tools he needs to compete in a basketball conference like the CAA. So you may as well say we need to fire President Lambert, Dave Blank, Clay Hassard and Kyle Wills and give a hearty high one to all of the donors and prospective donors all because we are in a down year AND can't win in our first year in a significantly tougher conference. Matheny is, was and will be fine. Who exactly do you want to hire in his place? Unfortunately, Krzyzewski already has a job and, regardless, I don't think we can quite put together a package to get him here. Seriously, we couldn't put together a package to get any of the CAA level coaches here. Regardless of the money, our venue and other facilities are simply just too meager to attract top level talent. So, we are left with a top notch academic education along with a beautiful campus with which to attract 3 to 3.5 star talent. Not bad, but still pretty deficient when compared to other institutions in the area like Davidson, UNCC, UNCW, CofC, etc.

I couldn't agree, (hope), more. I don't think Matheny expected the early success we had this year. I think he evaluated each of the players & chose the way for them to best mature. For some it was to be trial by fire, for others working out & gaining weight was the right path. One thing I do know is that Matheny expected Dawkins to be ready before conference play, but at this point wants to get the redshirt for Dawkins and George.
Don't forget, along with Santaanna, we have another 6'10"ish player coming in next year.

Our other signee is a 6-8 G/F - Tyler Seibring from Normal, IL.
I don't think Matt should be fired. However, my issue is with the lack of solid recruiting after his first class. We have some serious holes on our roster.
