If this is true. Go to Adam Smith at the Times-News. If it is, there will be a story. If it's not. It's sour grapes.
Bottom line, if he quit. He quit. Will he stay in school to graduate? That's the most important. We all want wins. However, I want kids to get degrees. That's why they are there. McGuire got his. And remember, most are going to get them for FREE. Not the $40k + others on campus are paying.
We all should have high expectations. For the staff, and the players.
Remember, there are two sides to every story. I'm not defending either side here. Let's see what happens.

I spoke with a couple of players and this is exactly what happened to Coppedge. The really sad fact about this is the coaching/and or the equipment staff didn't even have enough respect for a dedicated fourth year player to investigate the incident a little further. The gear/clothes in question didn't even belong to Coppedge it was another player's stuff which easily could be identified by number, that just happen to be in front of Tracey's locker.
I am one who definitely believes in having set rules especially in regard to a team setting, but I also believe in getting ALL the facts straight before rendering judgement or handing out discipline. SHAME on this entire coaching staff!

Take it to Dave Blank. All of this, if true needs to go him. Not a message board.
If this angers people so much, take it to him and Lambert.
I'll reserve judgement when all of the facts come out. Not from just a message board.
In the end. This does not apply to this situation. Every team in the country has juniors and seniors that don't play. It's sports. College sports. This is not little league. It's s privilege to play. Especially, when my $$$ are paying for you to go to school for free. A place that my parents shelled out tens of thousands of dollars to attend. I basically put the maroon and gold on for free.

KTF and FF get ready to blow a gasket. My impression is that a lot of this situation has to do with the way the players were treated under Swepson vs. Skrosky. What I mean is this: Swepson fancied himself as a "player coach" which in my book means soft on discipline, allowing the players to express their individuality. Be nice to the players and make them like you, after all, They're people and all people are entitled to respect. Skrosky isn't here to be liked. These kids aren't in high school with their mamas to come clean up their rooms anymore. He's trying to give these burgeoning men something much more valuable than a coaches respect, he's trying to develop their self respect. Football is a tough game and is the true definition of a team sport. If a player can't even keep his own locker tidy, how is he going to hold up his responsibility as a teammate? The real world is tough. You don't get respect unless you earn it. Now is a good time for these men to understand responsibility to themselves, their teammates, their superiors, their school and those who pay their scholarships.
Now if one player is being unfairly targeted or enduring true physical or mental ABUSE, Then I also say take it to Blank or Lambert. But if this is a case of a coach invoking discipline, the men that embrace it will be better for it.

This is not little league. It's s privilege to play. Especially, when my $$$ are paying for you to go to school for free. A place that my parents shelled out tens of thousands of dollars to attend. I basically put the maroon and gold on for free. This. Let me preface this by saying I have zero tolerance for anyone, whether it be coaches or other players, mistreating a player. There is a path for handling these situations and if someone feels something was handled incorrectly take it all the way to the top. With that said, none of the athletes are doing Elon a favor by playing football or any sport for that matter. Showing up and putting in hard work doesn’t guarantee anything. Welcome to the real world. Elon owes these athletes an education, nothing more. As an alumni who is invested in Elon, not individual athletes, I want the coaching staff to do what’s necessary to help Elon win. I want them to do it the right way and not treat players poorly, but I also want the best players on the field. Whether that’s happening or not I don’t know, but a coaching staff is being paid to make those decisions and we really have no choice but to trust them until the powers that be decide otherwise. Each year we see this, especially now that the team is struggling. Friends and family of players start griping because tough decisions are being made and it’s impacting playing time for particular players. Most of these people are not invested in Elon…they are invested in a player. Once that player is gone, so are they. Look at the 15% giving rate to the Phoenix Club from football alum. 85% of former football players, many of whom were on full scholarship, can’t muster up $5 to give back to a school that gave them a $100-200K education in many cases. I should note that a lot of programs are guilty of this, men’s and women’s. So at the end of the day, to put it bluntly, I want the programs to win and represent Elon well because I’m in it for the long haul. If feathers get ruffled along the way, who cares? Do what it takes to win. Whether Skrosky is capable of that is another story, but unfortunately we’ll just have to wait and see. Go Phoenix!

Anyone who thinks the coaches' behavior is acceptable is sadly mistaken.
I can just imagine how this will be used against us in recruiting:
Opposing coach: "the Elon progam is in shambles. They can't score, can't compete, and the coaches treat the players like crap." Recruit: "huh, what do you mean the coaches treat the players like crap?" Opposing coach: "just google about Coppedge quiting and see for yourself." ... Recruit does google and comes right to this thread...
This is juvenile behavior on the coaches, and it will come back to haunt them / the program.

I know this sounds overly simplistic, but we don't know the full story. To leap to conclusions with only forum leaks serving as information would be a mistake.
If there is a significant problem, one party or the other can go to the media or the administration.
Until then, spewing on this forum is senseless.

I really am happy that this forum did not die but I am also upset for the reasons or issues We are getting all in an up roar. I suppose it is the sign of the times. But really this comes out of a cancer caused by a losing culture.
I was a part of the initial Red Wilson build. It is impossible to compare yesteryear's teams .
I know one thing when the staff misses on a recruit due to a lot of things it sets a position back. and with a hundred players half of which are new can get lost in the shuffle. Look at the recruiting over the last 2 years and again when signing day happens in February and then look who makes it. We need transfers that can fill in the gaps.
Also certain topics should remain in-house. Losses in personnel needs to be on Elon only forum. Guests need to enroll and grow some. Take some ownership. and stay on topic or start a new thread.

I am all for discipline. However and I preface if true you dont put a players gear in garbage bags and place it in the stadium restroom.
Who is the childish one?
I agree with many. The adminsiatrtion can deal with it. If it is true it goes against all common sense and decency.
BTW, i am a donor to the program and this pisses me off.

When did this become such a country club attitude? I am sure donors that gave money to the building and locker room want it to be taken care of and treated with respect. I know I do. I think this has been so blown out of proportion. They disciplined a kid and I heard it was more than 1 player but only one was such a child that he ran to the coach whinning about it. So if they made them run for their locker being dirty that is fine though right? Give me a break. Maybe the coaches should have checked if it wasn't his stuff but if a coach has asked to clean your lockers. Then just clean your lockers. But God for bid a coach disciplines a player. You ever spank your kid? That's your choice some don't agree with it and some do. The coach didn't physically or mentally hurt his kid. He taught him a lesson and every other player in their. Get over it. Maybe this is why we are losing. We are so soft a little discipline throws us for a loop.

Maybe we are losing becuase the coaching staff doesnt have a blessed clue.
A few them of them should have their offices packed up and put in the trash since their game planning is garbage.

I'm not happy with that but the last staff was just as bad if not worse because they took a much better product and turned it in to crap. This staff has to take crap and turn into what it was before But Sometimes certain jobs take longer. I'm assuming your job doesn't count on a whole lot of 18 to 22 year olds to perform well 12 days out of a year. PM I'm glad your good at what you do.

I hear you 99 and we both want the same thing. Progress and a winner.
You are correct about the 18 to 22 year olds. Couldn't pay me enough.
Dont get me wrong I want this staff to succeed. just don't act like amatuers.
A kid screws up, make him run or some other form of discipline. At the very least allow the young man to keep his dignity.
Time for another topic. I am guilty of beating this horse past dead.
