Guess the fan base has still been reeling after the loss to GWU. Can't believe we haven't started a thread about this week's game. Charlotte is a bad FBS team, and the Elon squad sure didn't look like a good FCS team last week. So.....what happens this week? Charlotte was drilled by a pretty good ACC squad. The box made it look more like a solid FBS versus a mediocre FCS team. Niner fans reading, please take no offense. Outside of when teams play the Phoenix, I generally pull for all NC teams. The box for our game, well, it speaks for itself. Will the team come out this week with intensity? Can the D contain a run game? Will DT throw downfield and let WRs make plays? Can we get a run game going? What's the status on Summers? In case you want to remember the last meeting, the team's only win 2 years ago: youtu.be/80haAG71EU4

Charlotte showed some promise in there run and have a backup QB that can run the wildcat. I see them subbing him in on a good number of plays and running it down our throats. Unless we made some major adjustments to close the gaps it could get ugly.

The biggest problem we have - we can't score a TD. If the game plan is the same as last week, I think we will have the same result. If our composure is better we will play harder, BUT Charlotte is a better team than Gardner Webb. Our Defense stands to perform better against Charlotte, because their QB isn't as mobile as GW. Other than that they are bigger and faster than GW. I'd love to predict a win for the Phoenix, but based on what I saw last week I just don't see it. My SWAG is 28-10 UNCC. (If the team grew a heart over the last week I'd say 21-14 UNCC)

You guys won't see our backup QB unless the game gets out of hand. That said, our former QB, Matt Johnson, has transitioned to RB and we have some packages for him where he'll line up in a wildcat formation.

After watching the Louisville / Syracuse game last night, I don't think Charlotte's first loss tells us anything. Syracuse couldn't even come close to handling Louisville's offense either. Based solely on what we saw last week against GW, I'm worried Elon is going to be really outmatched tonight...I hope I'm wrong. Skrosky has said multiple times how much DT has improved from last year...stronger and more velocity on the ball...anxious to see what he can do for a full 4 quarters tonight. We should see a better running game tonight as well, we had to abandon it last week when we got down by so many points, but Gentrey and Summers are both very capable backs that can keep the chains moving.

Unfreaking believable. The coaching staff gave up 2 series into the third quarter. What kind of message does that send to the team when the coaches make the decision that early to give up. How do they ever get a recruit to come to Elon when the coaches don't coach to win.

How is that giving up?

It's 3rd down and 2. You have 2 to 3 capable receivers, 3 capable RBs, and ONE scholarship QB. So what do you do? Run the QB off tackle for a fumble, of course! I'm not one to complain about play calling but Holy Cow! I just don't understand it. I really like Skrosky, but if we don't get someone who can call plays we won't win a game this year including the D2 game.

BTW, Western Carolina beat Gardner Webb 44-14 yesterday. GW isn't a.500 team even in the Big South.

How many times are we going to run up the middle into a pack of defenders. We need more diversity of plays. And would like to see other players get a chance to see what they can do. Even the announcers on C-USA mentioned our next QB waiting on the sidelines for his chance.

I agree that Connor Hughes should have had at least half the 4th quarter. But DT staying in is evidence of NOT quitting. As for play calling... Well that's really hard to argue against.

Pulled starting RBs after 2 series. No adjustments and no desire from the coaches. I wonder if the staff had a clue. Coaches gave up, no question about it.

They're coaches, their jobs are on the line. No one can argue that they aren't doing a good job calling plays and adjusting but what possible motivation would they have for "giving up"?
