1) How we can go from "Skrosky needs to be fired" and "we should play freshman walk ons" to "this team might break into top 25?" In one week! Truth is, things were never as bad as many here seemed to present.
2) Similarly, things are not as good... The win against WM was wonderful, no doubt. But we need to realize WM essentially handed the game to us, particularly in the first half. Up 17-3 with only 2 first downs. No drive longer than 38 yards. That won't happen again this year.
3) Defense was stout, for sure. I hope that's a sign of things to come. It's interesting that we faced the most non-mobile QB yet. In previous games, mobile QBs have killed us.
4) The O line will only get better. This is a young group. Pass protection is already excellent. Once they get the run blocking completely together, watch out.
5) Running game was paramount against WM. It ate up time and generated yards. It forced WM to focus on the run and that made the 2nd half passing game work. This should be the focus of this offense.

As happy as I am about the W&M win, I still stand by everything I've said up to this point. Not to pee in everyone's cornflakes, but DT still has a problem with overthrowing receivers in the flats, our TE is still not watching the ball into his hands. When DT is in the pocket he either under throws, (go routes), or overthrows, (flats). You're absolutely right on about the mobile vs. non-mobile QBs with our D. There's no denying any of these things.
BUT
Play calling, while still a little suspect was certainly better against W&M than our first two games. DT was better in the pocket against W&M than he had been up until then. DT was able to settle down a little - he didn't have as bad a case of "Happy Feet" as he's had in the past and you could actually see him going through progressions, (a tribute to the OL). DT looked pretty darned good in play action. We seem to have found two receivers in Bridges and Taylor that can make plays. Summers actually progressed DURING the game. His vision was noticeably better as the second half progressed. He was already good, but dang! Our D was already good as well, but I think they showed what they can do when they're not on the field for 85% of the plays. Our DBs have outstanding closing speed and can tackle. Our DL has matured and are getting the job done. The DC is calling stunts that make sense and are timely. The DEs are getting pressure on the QB. Silas and Blair are just, very simply, FU***NG SCARY. And lastly our OL is awesome is pass protect and are getting better each game at run blocking.
So I personally still don't think we're anywhere near Top 25, but we're a sh!tload closer now than we were the first three games.
Word for the week: Progress.

I agree with both posts here. My take-away having attended the game is consistent. I think we are very close, closer than I thought, to competing at the CAA level on a consistent basis. We know now our D can compete. And special teams as well. We know we have a solid OL. We need more improvement in our passing play and we know we have WR's who can make great catches.
My only adds are 1) our QB needs to get more comfortable running the ball. What's the point of running a read option if he is going to hand off the ball almost every time (I think he kept it once Sat). The play takes time and if we are going to hand it off almost always there are quicker and better ways to get the ball to our RB. And 2) we need a better downfield passing attack. Not sure if it is lack of arm strength or if he is waiting too long, but we need this.
If we can get these two issues fixed, it will enable our running game and we will compete at CAA level week in and out. It's very exciting to be here, we are very close.

A couple things we need to remember:
1. Key players and bruisers out in this game on the D, and they were laying some big hits....playing very physical ball. 2. William and Mary is a team that has typically come guns blazing out of the locker room in the second half. The D gave up 1 big play that was a score, but held tight the rest of the way. 3. The offense kicked it up big time in the second half. 2 big scoring drives accounted for 150 yards and 11 minutes of the game. That's huge. If we don't score off the W&M 1st half mistakes, Elon still wins the game 17-10. 4. DT looked pretty good on bootlegs and play action. Wonder if we'll see that more. 5. Summers is a work horse. It looks like they've found "something" in the running game. 6. Throw more jump balls to Cole Taylor!!! I said it last week. He has the hands and the height!
Tickets are apparently going like hotcakes for the game this weekend. Safe travels to all and work hard team!

Agree with everything everyone is saying and the reality is, right now, we have to out execute our opponents to earn victories. Here's to hoping Nova overlooks us like W&M did and we can somehow find a way to steal another one on Saturday!
Crazy stat...the last time Elon won back-to-back games...Sept. of 2012...Hopefully this is the start of something much bigger.

Egads that's not a refreshing statement. 4 years since back to back wins? Again, I'm with another poster on this board. Though it was a big win, more importantly we saw good progress. I've seen folks harping on the fact that we only had X amount of yards. Well, they worked with some super short fields on a couple of drives. One scoring "drive" was 6 yards.

Sigh. Ever dream of what this forum would be like with only members? Hitler said something very similar in 1939

Really, Hitler made a comment about registered posters on a sports fan board in 1939? Who would have guessed.
