Hey Elon fans: Just in time for Christmas, there's a new book out on D.C. "Peahead" Walker, arguably the best coach in Elon athletic history. It's called Peahead! and it's available now from Library Partners Press (find it online at all major booksellers, at www.peaheadwalker.com, and at many brick-and-mortar retailers). Never heard of Peahead Walker? Well, he did his work a long time of go (1927-37) when college athletics were just getting rolling. Walker coached all three of the "big" sports and was successful in everyone. His Elon teams won 12 conference championships (or their equivalent) and helped put the school on the athletic map. He also helped keep the college from closing during the dark days of the Great Depression. How? Pick up a copy and find out. Walker was successful everywhere he coached (Atlantic Christian, Wake Forest, Montreal of the CFL) but more importantly he was one of the greatest characters in American coaching history, a funny, profane, unpredictable man who coached during some of the most interesting times in the history of college sports. Walker was a personality for the ages, the kind of coach rarely seen before or since. Sports fans of any stripe will enjoy an entertaining trip down memory lane, but Elon fans will enjoy it even more. A little maroon and gold always coursed through Peahead's veins. Elon was where he got his start. Find out more at www.peaheadwalker.com.
