We've won seven games in three years.
Thoughts?

A month ago, I was all about giving them another shot. After getting creamed by Rhode Island and Towson, I say let them all go tomorrow and go hire a D-II or FCS Head Coach that knows how to recruit at a private school.
If they don't, I'm done following football. It's just not fun anymore

I checked the official attendance for the game against URI. It was listed as 6,236. There weren't 6,236 zoological life forms within the stadium fence for that game. There may have been 3,000 FANS there, including the URI fans. I think we all were expecting a lot of improvement this season after the finish we had last season. That's the reason we had decent attendance at the beginning of this season. Next season you will hear crickets.
Here's something Dave Blank and Leo Lambert do not understand. When you care about your team and they're losing, especially when they seem to be playing half heartedly, it hurts. You simply can't bear to watch it. All the Ferris wheels, blow-up bouncy rooms and senior days won't help. The only Elon fans you will see there next year are those that are somehow connected with the team, extreme diehards and people that just didn't have anything better to do that day. We likely won't average more than 2,500 Elon fans, including those who have bought season tickets but really aren't there. I'm not an insider like some of you all obviously are, but it looks to me like this coaching staff has lost this team. Does anyone else see what I'm seeing, or am I delirious?
All I know is the coaching staff needs to have an honest no holds barred discussion with each other and the team to figure out what's wrong. When you're able to handle a team like William & Mary but get smacked around by teams like Gardner Webb and Rhode Island, your problems go way deeper than talent. I don't know what the solution is, but it's blatantly obvious that the coaching staff has yet to find it.

We said ⬆️!
Over the last six years, ever since Blank put HIS stamp on the program by forgetting that we had a winning formula on the field and hiring a position coach in Swepson - our program has crumbled.
98% of Alums and students don't care. It appears that our leadership does not care. He took the easy way out and hired a blast from the past. Three years in and it appears that we are back at square one.
Do we really know what it takes to win in today's game. Sure we have fancy videos and great facilities. But my initial thought is that we do not know what it takes culturally. Remember the days when we were winning and people would complain that those of us in the donor seats would stand up and yell??? I sure do. This is what I'm talking about. Our campus culture is concerned with everything other than wining on the field. We want to point to facilities and such but is there a commitment to winning. I'm not sure there is. It starts with the top of the house. Our administration has a "we know it all" mentality. We are slow to move and really do not take suggestions well.
I've spent nearly 30 years watching our athletic department and it is not focused on winning.
It's simple, you win, people care. You win, students care. Do you honestly think the current and recent students will donate to support the product on that they are witnessing?
I'm rambling. However, Elon and specifically Leo Lambert need to look at what we want to be as an athletic program. Sadly, I think I already know the answer.

I think we all know the answer. Just look at the Elon Magazine to see. Political views, inclusiveness, bathroom access, perceived gender bias. And a one page blrub on sports. That sums it up for me

I think most are just tired/frustrated with football and moving on to the basketball season which looks promising and at least exciting to watch. The football is an unmitigated disaster right now which should be dealt with immediately. I have heard from some that Rich has two years left on his contract and some feel he needs to be given at least one more year to a) have his two top recruiting classes show what they can do and b) find a quarterback. I disagree in that although we were young and yes we have not had a good quarterback in the past two years we needed to show improvement/building in his third year over his first two years and we in fact regressed. As mentioned above he lost the team this year and my big problem is that the product he is putting on the field is neither competitive nor interesting/exciting to watch. I was at the RI game and I think 3,000 is pretty generous in actual attendance. The school wants us to support the athletic program but then put coaches/programs in place which can not compete (Mens Soccer excluded). I understand there was less the 40 people at the last Monday football luncheon (which reminds me of the last lunch under Swepson). And at least 25% of that was probably Elon staff. As a Phoenix Club supporter and Football and BB season ticket holder I am tired of what is happening with the football program and will not be giving further unless changes are made. The only way to get the attention of the Administration/Athletic Dept. is through the pocketbook. I agree with above that if we keep the current staff next year we will definitely hear crickets at the games......we have choices in our area (Duke, UNC, State, WF, etc.). I dearly want to support Elon.....but not the futility the last 6 years of football have produced.

Men's Soccer, Women's Lacrosse, t&f, and Baseball should be given a pass. Soccer competes well. Lax has done well in its short life, Kennedy has worked so much magic that it should take a long time of bad seasons to touch him, t&f/cc competes.
So it's not everything. It's just the focus sports

What happens to recruits that have been offered and accepted, ready to sign in Feb., if there is a coaching change. Do the offers still stand? Though position to be in for them.

They can honor the commits or pull them if they like. They should be fired now to find a coach and get on the recruiting trail. If he is still here by Christmas, I'm sorry to tell u he probably will not be fired. In that case it will be sad, because the word is a lot of the players will be leaving.

It's just the focus sports I'd throw women's hoops in there as well. Charlotte Smith has done a great job with that program and they are poised to have an even better year. They need to turn the corner at some point, but no complaints there. Men's hoops needs to turn the corner soon too, but at least it seems possible. Some of these other sports that are struggling look to be bad for years to come. That's where changes need to happen right away. As for football, I've never been so disinterested. Not good for the program when the fans who have been supporting you for 20+ years (with some lean years included) don't care anymore. Go Phoenix!

I figured there'd be a lot more talk than this. last night I went to the Wake / Clemson game in W-S just to get the bad taste of watching Elon's terrible version of what the they think football is suppose to be. As people I love the players and coaches be until the culture changes and that starts with winning but it really does not. The culture has to change and I know these guys go through so much just to develop off season begins tomorrow. 8 months of conditioning and practices for this crap really has to be disconnect. #1 We need better players and coaches that can lead them. #2 We have to have support other than parents like our students and staff to demand a better product. Changes have to be made, If I see and demand it it has to be apparent. Hire Ruffin McNeill former ECU coach now at UVa. We cannot afford him. But He will get us some players and is a great coach.

They aren't firing him is what i'm hearing I have heard the same thing from normally reliable sources.....one more year. IMHO I disagree and the buzz around the program is going to be terrible. Hope I am wrong. Like the Ruffin McNeill idea, Logan or former coach head from JMU who is now on CC staff.
