Let's take a look inside the numbers...
Ranks out of 122 FCS Teams Total Offense: 115 Scoring Offense: 120 Rushing Offense: 98 Passing Offense: 108 3rd down conversion: 113 First Downs: 116 Passing yds per completion: 118
Total Defense: 93 3rd Down Defense: 105 Turnover Margin: 85 Scoring Defense: 85
As you can see we were putrid on offense. One thing that stands out is our horrible passing yds per completion. Not to mention our inability to get first downs.
Our defense was only slightly better. The poor guys were always on the field.
I also went and looked back to see if we improved in any areas over the last three years. I also looked at '13 - Swepson's last year to compare.
Points Per Game '13 - 21.5 '14 - 14.08 '15 - 13.36 '16 - 12.18
Verdict: We've gotten worse.
Total Offense: '13 - 356.4 '14 - 298.2 '15 - 257.2 '16 - 277.1
Verdict: We were 20yds per game better year over year. However, we are still really bad.
Scoring Defense: '13 - 32.75 '14 - 30.25 '15 - 24.82 '16 - 30.73
Verdict: Very little improvement overall.
Total Defense: '13 - 468.5 '14 - 420.3 '15 - 384.6 '16 - 421.5
Verdict: Again, very little improvement.
I'm hard pressed to see any real improvement overall.
If we don't make any changes, especially on offense - I'll be pissed.
I'm interested in others reactions. Please comment.
This is based on fact. Numbers don't lie. We've not improved one bit overall.

I am suggesting the problem with the program is not necessarily the coaches. If you take a look at Swepson's staff, it appears as though they are doing very well in their current jobs. They all have winning records at their current programs. This iincludes the defensive coordinators under Swepson. Ed Pinkham is the DC at Western Michigan (undefeated and #21) and Brad Sherrod is at Sam Houston State (#1 in FCS). Perhaps we should take a look at the Administration - Dave Blank. Also has anyone noticed we have had the same recruiting coordinator throughout the last 3 head coaches?

The offensive inadequacies drove up the defense's numbers. If we would have had an average offense, I'd wager we would have had an above average defense. Sadly, that wasn't the case.

What! Great Work! Damaging stats! Actually the stats look better than the game day product. It looked much worst on the field.
