This is pretty common. Football coaches almost always bring in their own guy.

The difference is at Elon the strength coach is not just for football but a few sports. I know Horton at one time was the SC coach for both basketball teams as well.

Horton was actually the Director of a strength & conditioning, overseeing all 17 sports. I don't think he really worked with basketball--one of his assistants did. At this level, with how well he did in bringing continuity to the strength program overall, his job was most likely safe.

He slowed down a revolving door as HSC and IMO did a nice job. expect a lot of guys leaving for greener pastures
