Other than the indoor facility - which is definitely needed in South Dakota - there is nothing in those three videos that we don’t already have.
We don’t need an indoor facility. We just need a turf practice field. Our weather is not bad enough to warrant the expense.

Tell that to UNC, Duke, NCSU, Wake Forest and APP state has one, its smaller scale but they had it when they were FCS, All of which have indoor practice facilities. Wow fc4life your pretty one dimensional. An indoor facility is used for other things than just football or a practice Field. Also the SDSU field house, the front part of the facility was football only. Except for the academic center in that building. Heck even had a video room for 6 edit stations for a video coordinator down the road. You don't even have to delay practice even for a bad storm. And we get bad storms around here. Spring practice rain, snow luck of the draw for the year I mean you dont have to reschedule a practice. This way practice does not get interrupted and the student athlete can go on being a student and get practice in. Also this winter when it was in the teens and so cold were the players outside running? I dont know but I bet it would have felt alot better inside that outside. Is there an NCAA rule about the cold and working out? Like a heat rule...? Also I think out video board is tiny compared to the largest recorded in FCS

I’m looking forward to seeing you break out the checkbook to fund the facility!
It’s not needed.

Baseball needs better facilities before anything else is done for football.
Go Phoenix!

I don't know from what perspective you want to judge Elon facilities other than to be glad we have what We have and appreciate their use. To be current so We can add a swim team We need a 50 mm pool with a 25 yd for collegiate meets. So We are looking at another 10 Mil mininimum. You Rang? I'm sure all those Dakota & Wildwest FCS schools have rodeo arenas well.

So I did some research and ran some numbers. These are not exact numbers but the only facts I have to go off of. Elon does not have to report exact numbers but I found some information. So lets look at these numbers as not exact. Looks like the Athletic department operation budget was $4,000,000 reported in 2015/2016. Now what the University kicked in I do not know. What the phoenix club kicked in do not know. So lets look at that $4 million number as the only reported number. If you take that number it looks like on average the student Fee is $600 for athletics. That $600 goes strictly to athletics operating budget. So increase that to $1100 keep the difference and over a 5 year period you have $17,000,000 for a facility.
". In contrast, more than 70 percent of athletic budgets in the smaller FCS and DI-NF programs came from revenues “allocated” by the university; this athletic subsidy includes money from student fees, institutional support, and government appropriations."

I don’t know what some of you have as an idea for an indoor “practice “ facility, but it would not be used just for football, it would also serve both soccers, baseball, softball, lacrosse, track and field, cross country, cheer and band. Almost all FBS and many FCS programs already have them. In Texas,Arkansas, and other “football rich” states, the High Schools have them also.

Again, if any of you out there who believes we really need an indoor facility, break open your checkbooks and make some large donations. Say, $1 Million to get the ball rolling.
Until then, Elon needs to focus on a a few other things for our athletics programs.
Lastly, the Phoenix Club does not generate funds for the operating budget of the athletics dept. Those funds go directly to support scholarships.

You don't know what would be supported financially until you forward a proposal with plans and renderings that would interest such support. No one, not even fc4life can question the need for such a facility because it would enhance all "outdoor" sports. Where when and how it would be built would not depend on the support $ of the Phoenix club, it would depend on the commitment of the Administration, the blessing of the Board of Trustees, and the "forward" thinking of the loyal fans and supporters of the University's athletic programs. What a recruiting tool this would be!

Almost all FBS and many FCS programs already have them. In Texas,Arkansas, and other “football rich” states, the High Schools have them also. I would certainly welcome an indoor practice facility. I think any/everyone would, especially if it could be constructed such that it could equally serve football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, etc. With regard to baseball facilities, I'm not really aware of what they need other than lavatory facilities in the dugouts. Maybe maintenance of the infield? That is assuming an indoor "all sports" facility happens. UNCW is building an awesome indoor baseball/softball facility. App State, UNCC, Furman, UNCG, College of Charleston, ECU and a few others have indoor baseball facilities. Football absolutely needs field turf on at least one of the practice fields. However, I'm not familiar enough to make an argument that we need an indoor football/large field practice facility because "many" FCS schools have them. Which CAA or SoCon schools have one? (Not a rhetorical question.) Duke actually just built one about 3 years ago. UNC is planning one, but doesn't currently have one. Neither ECU nor UNCC have one. Appalachian has a small one, (for obvious reasons). Which other FCS/G5 mid atlantic schools have them? There's no reason why we shouldn't be the first non-ACC school in the area to have one. Why not? I'm in. Not that I have any additional money to donate, but I certainly like the idea!

Looks like Western Carolina University Has or had it on their radar...to give you an idea of what a 62,000 square foot indoor looks like I will use an example from Colorado State University www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9Hdtmcd89QSix Year Non-Appropriated Capital Improvements Projects Plan 2014-15 through 2020-21 Project #3 (Prioritized): Indoor Practice Facility Proposed Project Title: Estimated Total Cost ($): 11,102,689 Design Cost: 1,154,926 Construction Cost: 9,624,384 Contingency Cost: 323,379 Estimated Schedule: (MM/DD/YYYY) Designer Start 9/1/2015 Construction Start 3/1/2016 Construction Complete 12/1/2017 Occupancy 1/1/2018 Source of Funds: Gift Estimated Indebtedness ($): 11,102,689 Amount of any needed Debt Service Fee ($) Required Student Fee Process Completed on (MM/YYYY): Description: 62,000 SF indoor practice facility to support practice and training activities for the athletics football program. Site location will be adjacent to the existing field house and existing stadium. Justification: Training facility accommodations based upon analysis and review of peer institutions with similar weather conditions. Currently, all practice fields are outside, and season practices are routinely impacted by inclement weather. The practice facility would allow the team to become better prepared for competition, serve as a recruiting tool, and create success that would represent commitment and vital economic activity to the community and athletics program.

Well looks like JMU is getting a multi sport 50 to 60 yard long indoor facility as part of Houston's contract. they look to be built and finished by 2018.

well looks like is just a temporary indoor until they can build a bigger one. I am only guessing but I am guessing their student fees are paying for all of this.
"The 60-by-50-yard facility will be constructed on the uppermost field of Sentara Park.
Last week, JMU athletic director Jeff Bourne said the school would finalize its plans for design and cost after Monday. The university’s senior vice president for administration and finance, Charles King, is working with JMU facilities on the project.
Houston said within the next five years he believes JMU will have a “permanent, long-term solution,” but that this is a great answer to the problem in the meantime."
