Elon has landed a commit for 2019.
6-3 PG Ade Adebayo from Nigeria (playing in the UK currently).
Very good size for a PG, is more of a slasher, penetrator off the dribble type player.
Could probably be a combo guard if needed and play the 2.
Looks like he has a solid stroke, good form, but I wouldn't expect him to be shooting a ton of threes.
He is good in the open floor, attacking in transition. Finishes well through contact, has a good frame to his body to allow him to finish around the rim.
He will bring athletic ability and slashing skills that Priddy simply does not have.
We need better athletes, Adeabyo brings that!
He recently won MVP in the Underclassmen game at the 2018 Hoopsfix All-Star Classic.
Currently ranked 5th at the prestigious Deng game, I saw one the players ranked ahead of him was going to Drexel.
Elon also recently offered Brian Taylor, a 6-6 wing, very athletic, would be a great get but pulling him away from Michigan could be challenging as many local schools are pursing him.
We have a verbal commit from Euro 6-11 Goran Miladinović as well.
I can't get a good read on this guy, seems thin. Euro bigs are hard to predict and the tapes on him aren't great.
Needs to improve aggression and strength, but has a good shot and passing ability. I would predict he won't produce much as a underclassmen, if at all.
Unsure on the status of Swoope redshirting, if he does then we only have one spot available.
If he does not redshirt or decides to become a 5th year grad transfer, then we have 2 spots available. Doubtful he transfer though
I feel like after signing PG Adebayo, we are in a position to take the best available with the last two scholarships.
I would imagine the last scholarship will be used to sign a post player, unless it is a guy that is just so talented, we take him and make it work.
Future Roster
PG Swoope Senior Priddy Junior Adebayo Freshman Fuller Junior
SG Wooten Sophomore
SF Pack Sophomore
PF Hannah Sophomore Rada Junior
C Poser Sophmore Goran Freshman

Forgot about KK, so we still have two scholarships assuming Swoope returns.
Probably need a big guy and a SF type player.
Hannah and Poser can provide minutes, not sure we can expect the Goran kid to be ready.

How about Simon Wright? Is he a walk-on?

I forgot about Simon Wright, he is for sure on scholarship.
If you look at Simon Wright minutes, he isn't trending the right direction.
Simon had 20 minutes against UNCG (which we lost by 1)...1 point, zero assist, 2 turnovers, 4 rebounds.
Next game against Canisius (another 1 point lost)… zero points, 2 assist, 1 turnover, 4 rebounds, fouled out in 17 minutes.
Some big minutes in tight games and he came up short when he was called on.
I would say he will get his 10 minutes a game unless the entire group of freshman are spot on producers from day one.
I expect Andy Pack to be starting at the 3, which will be an undersized SF but he rebounds well. I would expect him with added experience and muscle, to be close to a 10 PPG and 6 rebounds. He is a tough, hard nose player....like Davidson use to have but I think he has enough offense to contribute going forward. He has been a bright spot.
Wooten has been logging big minutes ever since conference play, which makes me think the coaching staff trust him and they are invested in him improving going forward.
Since Wooten has emerged, Seth Fuller pretty much is not seeing the floor. Especially if Swoope returns, he will not be getting minutes.
PG Swoope Senior Priddy Junior Adebayo Freshman Fuller Junior
SG Wooten Sophomore
SF Pack Sophomore Wright Junior
PF Hannah Sophomore Rada Junior
C Poser Sophomore Goran Freshman
I know this isn't something Matheny has pursued in the past, but if he can't land a big guy he feels is ready to give us a solid 20 MPG inside, it would be nice to land a 5th year grad transfer.
Maybe a guy coming down from a higher conference who wasn't getting minutes that wants the chance to play against lower competition and grab 20 minutes a game for a year before his career is over.

😂😂😂. Elon basketball betting on yet another foreign player that they’ve only actually watched play twice. This program is going down the drain. Our coaching staff has outdone themselves with the lack of success and recruitment. Who is heading the ship? Who is our main recruiting coach because they need to be the first to go!!!

Not sure who heads up the recruiting, but Adebayo on tape looks like a solid player.
6-3 with his athletic ability and handling, he will be just fine.
FYI- He has held D1 offers for well over 2 years. He is a known commodity among coaches.
Wooten is 6-3 190, but he can't drive the ball like this guy. He is more off the ball, catch and shoot type player.
Adebayo will bring the ability to drive the ball and finish with athletic ability that we currently don't have on this team.
High ceiling player with his size and ball handling skills, if the shot improves and he adjust quickly, could log quality minutes as a freshman and be starting as a sophomore.

I’d rather not bash any of our previous recruits since the season is early over but we have seen what our 2018 recruiting class can do, we have seen what our 2017 class can do. Wright barely plays and Priddy plays because swoop got injured. Any athletic player will struggle at Elon because of our half court style of offense. Athleticism thrives in the open court and MM system is not about fast break points. Elon May have been 2nd to last in the entire NCAA with dunk attempts. My money said the kid doesn’t step foot on Elon’s campus.

What is the deal with Elon and walk ons? Some walk ons are better than scholarship players. Can someone explain?

Poser has played better as the season progressed. Hannah has been consistent all year. Wooten and Pack improved greatly as the year went on. I expect all four players to be solid, rotational players going forward.

Does anyone think that Elon could find the same kid in this country? Nothing against bring in foreign kids but I think we over look a lot of kids. That or we know we won’t actually beat anyone out so we have to go after a foreign kid?
What other offers did this kid have before commiting to us? You said he had some offers for a couple years now?
Also when I watch these tapes does anyone think they are watching the YMCA rec league? How good is some of this talent they are playing against?
I mean from this very weak tape I would say we might have a PG coming in that is better than we have. The big kid looks pretty weak but considering what we have he just might be better as well. If the fire MM I hate to be the coach who has to take on his recruiting class.

It seems that someone on our coaching staff has over seas ties and there is nothing wrong with that BUT we still should be recruiting better talent. Also, to respond to the above, Pack and Wooten have been granted the opportunity to play through mistakes but again I would advise anyone to look at the lack of development of our roster year to year. Our record says something is wrong. Nothing else needs to be said. Lowering expectations and admitting that we are indeed in the “rebuilding” phases is the reality of it. We are not mediocre. We are BAD BAD BAD. Along being top 10 in three point attempts is not equating to wins. Elon having 3 players (swoop, Santa Ana and Sebring) on the floor with 1k career points did not equate wins. It’s a failing system. It’s tome to thank Matt for his efforts and wish him well.

What everyone seems to be missing here is: the players that we currently have on the team (scholarship) were at the same level when we recruited them. What normally happens is that you recruit a kid who is 6-11 or 6-4 or 6-9 or 6-7, etc. and has some indicators of a "game" ,ie., shooting stroke, athleticism, jumping ability, speed, etc. and you, over a season or two of "good" coaching and teaching your "system", develop those players into a TEAM. From my observations, this has not happened at ELON. Santa Anna was at his current level when he arrived. So was Seibring. So we could logically assume that Pack, Wooten, Hannah and Poser are already playing at their highest level that they will realize at Elon. So, you might ask, what is the KEY missing ingredient? COACHING ! TEACHING the RIGHT SYSTEM and if you are not going to be able to do those two things, you might try to recruit better athletes who will, on their own, rise to greatness. It is simple, we just need someone who is able to teach and coach. We can still get good students who just happen to be good athletes.

We recruit players who are so physically limited that they can only develop so much. It’s because Matt loves the gameplan of chucking 40 threes a game at an average clip of efficiency. Need to start recruiting players who are upside athletes and develop their skill. It’s significantly more realistic to develop skill than athleticism (things like speed and quickness are just incredibly difficult to improve drastically). We have to be one of the most physically limited teams in the entire country. MATTS GOTTA GO.
