So we take a QB transfer from Montana State that was originally at NC State? He left Montana because he got benched. How do y'all think he will do here? Isn't Joey going to play this season?

Insurance? McKay is a NC native from Raleigh and Montana St got to the FBS finals and his stats proved he could play and secured him a playoff berth. Your correct he got benched but the QB that beat him out got hurt in the first series vs NDSU and they lost. Baughman is coming off a knee ACL rehab last season and has this spring to get his timing back. We recruited 2 very good QB's the last 2 seasons and have a 6-6" Texan on the roster as well. McKay is a dual-threat so I say we have a good get. He could very well be at a rival school. He just may have one season left but any contribution will be positive.

I'm going to stay positive on this one, McKay's stats look pretty good. msubobcats.com/sports/football/stats?path=football MSU was 9-2 with him as a starter. There was only one bad loss which was to Montana. They also lost 16-19 to Wyoming, a FBS team with McKay as a starter. He threw for 2021 yards, & ran for 316. I went through his stats game-by-game. This showed that in many of the games, they were so far ahead by half-time, that they went into "run the ball/eat up the clock" mode after the half. Their game against Cal Poly is a great example; he only threw for 163 yards and 2 TDs, but they were ahead 35-0 at the half, (after his 2 TD passes). So they ran the ball the rest of the way & probably put in their 3rd string players. Also, They beat the SH!++ out of so many teams last season that the 2nd & 3rd string QBs always got time. Cheek threw for 2924 yards, 17 TDs and had 114 yards net rushing. McKay threw for 2021 yards, 16 TDs and had 316 yards net rushing. Cheek's QB rating on the year was 137.21. McKay's Rating was 150.23. McKay did not play in the playoffs. There is no indication that I can find as to why. It looks like MSU turned their top rushing RB into a QB. He was ok in minimal passing for the playoffs but ran like a beast, which got them to the semi finals against NDSU. As expected, They were destroyed by the Bison. NDSU has no mercy for one dimensional teams. IMO, this says something about the MSU coaching staff that would not put their best passer, McKay, in the game to attempt a more balanced effort. I'm giving McKay a pass for transferring from NCSU. Don't forget, his competition was Devin Leary, one of the best QBs in the NCAA. There was very little PT in his future with Leary there. He is probably transferring to Elon partly because he's PO'd that he was benched and partly to be coming home. He's from Raleigh. I think he'll be a senior, which sucks. But he could be a difference maker for the one season he's here. Re: Joey Baughman, I think he deserves to be the heir apparent to Davis Cheek. However, Joey's more of a rushing QB and hasn't proven to be a good passer. With all due respect, when was the last time Elon had a good rushing team? Cignetti's first year is the only one I can remember in the last 25 years. I'm pulling for Joey to be the next Elon starting QB. However, I'm all about EARNING your position. So, Let the competition begin!

So, Let the competition begin! Nice dig up on his stats but the board has lit back up. Just for clarity Mont St did play NDSU in the finals. I hated to hear that McKay left the team after being benched and I feel or hope he regretted that move. I personally love that there will a lot of competition in several position areas this spring. I believe OC Folmer will like having RPO options and We can do that due to a now seasoned and massive O-line. There will be competing for those spots as well. We have receivers coming back and they can get open and catch it. As for heir apparent I believe Joey can be one heck of a QB but he is coming off a serious injury and rehab. He must make better decisions and that is what Spring ball does. For the record, Malcolm Summers gave us 2 great half seasons both going down to injury. Looking forward and that is the only way I see it. We have a lot of talent from the last 3 years of recruiting. Let them play.

Yep. I misread the bracket. MSU did, in fact lose to NDSU in the national championship game.
