Fantastic 16 minutes of basketball. Horrible 24 minutes that followed Over a 40 point swing. Hard not to feel disappointed, not inspired, after this one. BTW..Wake isn’t very good.

I saw a team get hot and then tried forcing it in the second half, but I would rather them with somewhat of a pulse compared to what we have previously seen.

I wouldn’t call it just “hot”. Yes, they hit some threes. But they had it working inside, outside and in transition. They also were active and effective defensively. They were clearly the better team for most of the 1st half. Make no mistake, I’m not salty they lost. We were playing an ACC team for goodness sake. But the WAY we lost was disappointing. To encounter a 40+ point swing after playing such good ball for nearly half the game was tough to watch on TV. I’m still encouraged about the season however. The game Thursday against what I assume will be a solid ETSU will tell us A LOT about this 2023-24 Elon team.

What happened in the first 15 minutes said as much about Wake’s preparedness as it did about our ability and effort. Wake’s coaches had them playing like we were a DII team, not that I’m not proud of our team taking advantage of that. However, when their coaches got their s—t together & started playing defense and feeding Carr down low, we started acting like a DII team & let them walk all over us. There’s no way we should have collapsed to that degree. Hildreth was especially problematic for our D.
Hopefully, our team realizes the potential they have and continue to play with a high degree of confidence.

I have only missed seeing 5 games over the last 10 years of Elon Men's Basketball. THe first half of the Wake game was the most exciting, fast paced, offensive display I have seen in that time frame. That is something to hang our hat on. I agree with every comment posted that it was disappointing to see the collapse in the second half. It was hard to watch. It seemed they were trying to force things, the shooting went away and there were a lot of poor decisions. I think some of that should be attributed to good coaching by Wake. They are an ACC school. We knew they would make adjustments at the half and boy did they. They were a different team in the second half and took us out of the game. All that being said I am OK with this one. I think the team can carry a lot of confidence into Thursday nights game knowing they played as well as they did.
When Taylor got here he talked about a fact paced offense and running the ball. They showed they are capable of doing that and I think we will see a lot of that the rest of the way. They had 55 points against an ACC school in the first half. An ACC school picked to finish in the middle of the conference. I am excited to see more running like that.
I was encouraged to see Zac follow up his performance from the exhibition with a great game. We definitely need that. Dorn looked sharp in the first half before disappearing. He is not afraid to shoot the ball. Will be great when he is on and not so great when he is missing. He took a poor shot in the second half and was immediately replaced in the lineup. So hopefully his shot selection will get better. Simpkins is aggressive, Needs to be a bit more under control but it is way early. I am excited for his potential. Jadun Michael will soon be at the end of the bench again like he finished last year. He contributes nothing to the game. He has to be the biggest disappointment in the history of Elon Basketball. Remember he is the highest recruited player ever for Elon. I will be stunned if he continues in the starting lineup. Let's remember SAm Sherry did not play nor did Grant Gondrezick who had been said he would be an instant contributor. Max is going to be strong again as I think that is apparent. I have to say I believe we are going to be better this year than last. It has been one game. Lets see how we are doing after the three games in three days in Rock Hill which I will be in a ttendance for.

Plus, Campbell has been unselfish in playing the role of a center for the last two games. I think when he and Sam are playing together, we'll see a much different and better showing from Campbell.
