I am surprised he didn’t hold out for a better job. The IU job is a black hole.

I read somewhere that he was the #1 target for Duke, which isn't necessarily better than IU. IU may have offered more $$ or had a better returning roster or both. Plus, At 62 y/o, his next job, (after IU), will probably be his last. So rebuild IU, get them in the top quarter of the SEC then move to Bama when Saban retires:)

Yeah, the money is hard to turn down. And his window is much smaller because of his age. But still the worst job in the Big 10 (Rutgers a very close second). The Duke job is a better job, and he would have been a great fit at Northwester as well, if they hadn’t have kept their coach. Still, I can’t believe he didn’t end up at a West Virginia, who probably will fire thier coach next year, barring a miracle. And UVA will probably be open next year as well, although can’t really say UVA is a huge step up from IU.

Something that I hesitate to even mention. A Power 5 position coach makes 250-400K. A coordinator could make anywhere from 500K to into seven figures. I don’t know what Tony makes at Elon, but I’m guessing it’s in the $200K neighborhood. Now I doubt TT leaves for a position coach role, but what if JMU hires Cignetti’s DC as their HC??? Curt would need a DC, and a logical assumption is that Tony would be on the very short list. Hard to turn down a 3x salary raise. Just something to watch.

I saw something that Shanahan and Haines are expecting Ed to go with him and keep their coordinator roles.
