that was elon06 who made that comment, but id have to agree with a packed house and its small atmosphere you can really get that place going. It was wild my senior year in 06. as well as 04 trip OT with UNCG and 05's app state. we dont seem to rush the cort as much any more, guess those security guards have something to do with it. we need to pack the house and bring down the roof.

The Blue Crew's been around since before the Phanatics. What was weird about them sophomore year, the Blue Crew shirts were yellow. It made no since.
The attendance is still a great concern to me. We should not have to be worrying about getting above 1,000 for a game during the school year. From what I have been told from other students, the Phanatics in section 8 are the only ones standing (consistently) and before Furman, that was it. Section 7 used to always stand and that was usually thanks to the Pi Kapps that supported the program pretty strongly. Judging by the fact that section 7 has been quiet, they have seemed to move on. Even in 04-05 when the team stunk it up, we still had that section and the entire section stood. I guess all those fans graduated.
Now, its early in the year, but if this keeps in late January, I would be very concerned.

There were some Pi Kappas at last game I went to, but they were quiet and sat most of the game. The phanatics section was only group standing...and only 2-3 rows of them. I still think cheerleaders need to use timeouts to get the crowd yelling and "staying" into the game, instead of doing stunts that we are expected to clap for...that does nothing to generate game excitement. Follow example of State and hold up signs for one side to yell, then the other, or something. Agree that Tusculum game will probably draw low attention, but it's also a game that could slip up on our guys...all the more reason to attend and support the team.

I agree with the earlier comments about Saturday's game being a great atmosphere. It wasn't packed but when the guys started making a run the place was getting pumped. I assume this "play everyone in the conference twice" schedule is only for this year, until Samford comes in. I really enjoy the conference games and want to establish some more heated rivalries.

Phanatics is corrent..you think of the 05-06 season the atmosphere each game was great because we were winning..after we knocked off an undefeated Clemson team during December we were HOT! The trip down to the SoCon tourney was great. But you think of games before that? I took a LOT of effort between the dept. and students to make the atmosphere for the UNC-G game in '04. That was before the Phanatics and really started with 4 students.
I have had a problem for a while with the cheerleaders doing stunts during every timeout. You have to get people up and cheering during timeouts or at least have a routine with songs to get people involved. Duke does this the best..what you don't see when you watch a Duke game on TV is the crowd during the commercials..they play the same songs during each time out. Some may say that's boring but continuity brings people together and more organized to stay engaged.
EFF, I know you always enjoyed rushing the court..after almost EVERY game. But I feel that is reserved for the BIG games i.e. the 3 OT win over UNC-G when we were 15 point underdogs and trying to stay afloat in the Conference. If we beat Davidson in January..that would be justified as we haven't beaten them.....ever?
As for the Blue Crew they have been around for a while (before the Phanatics). Previous years they were unorganized and small. We brought about 50 students + alumni to UNCG in '06 for a televised game. We were louder than their entire crowd and their AD tried to make us "Sit down" because of "fans we were blocking." Lucky enough President Lambert sat in front of us so we just stood up when he did...basically the entire 2nd half. I remember the Blue Crew having a large guy who was their ring leader..but he wasn't very creative and man do I had the U-N-C- GGGGGGGG

We did beat Davidson one of our first few years in Division I. We have not beaten them since joining the conference though, maybe this will be the year. They are certainly good.

The Blue Crew became a recognized campus organization at the end of the basketball season last year. Prior, they were surely present but were not established or organized.

uea that UNCG stunt pissed me off, but in defence of the school it came from 1 person, i dont know if it was there AD or events guy. I ran into the one that tried to make us sit later that year at the tourny, and he said that he was fighting for our rights, "to a brick wall". I guess there AD was just embarroused that we out numbered them on home court.

I've been very dissappointed with the student crowds so far this year. Even with the Phanatics. They don't seem as load or as numerous as in prior years. I have noticed that more season ticket holders (upstairs seats) are going to the games. And yes we can get just as loud as the students. I like the idea of the poster that suggested the cheerleaders engage the fans and don't just do stunts. Some how the cheerleaders, the band, the dance team, and Tripp need to get on the same page and discuss how to get everyone in the gym involved.

elonsoccerfan - I understand your concern and desire for more congruence with cheerleaders, Phanatics, Athletics, band, etc. and increased student turnout. That's been the work of many, and countless hours. You are so right! We've studied this at length - and it is Elon culture, and how do we change it? I don't know.
Every party you mentioned is doing everything possible, but nothing else can make Elon students come to games. It's not "cool." It's cool to "come late," "sit down," and "not cheer." I wish I knew why...
As members of Athletics staff keep telling me - this is a process, and won't happen overnight. We have no history or legacy, as Davidson does. This is a 10-year commitment to enhance game day experience.
I'd love to get any feedback from you, or other posters on how to get students in Alumni?
Thanks for your input, and all we can do is cheer the team to victory!!!
GO PHOENIX

Does not seem this year's phanatics are starting cheers as they did in the past...but then, we seem to have fewer of them attending the games. Cheerleading at Elon in the old days was much more interactive with the crowd...but I recognize times change. The crowd does seem to get into recorded songs where they can "do" something...so, I suggest cheers which have the crowd responding with something...stomping feet, clapping hands, something to get their adrenalin going...do pre-game pep rally or something for students...while team is warming up, show some support. Coming late may be cool, but if enough students attended, coming late may mean no seat/standing place in bleachers. Last year, I recall one game where Leo Lambert was standing with phanatics and jumping up/down with them. Most of us really don't care about the time-out stunts...and all the media time-outs (and opposing team's) stop momentum...so we need to find a way to keep it going...that should be the cheerleaders' job...not how high they can jump/lift.
