I think it's funny that we now categorize Ola as a critical player this year. It's exciting how WELL he is playing. 2 years ago he could barely dribble Up early to head to Charlottesville... This is going to be a BIG TIME WIN!! GO PHOENIX!!!!!!!! E LON

The one big problem with Simons is that he couldn't win with the recruits he got.

The one big problem with Simons is that he couldn't win with the recruits he got. We started to see a turnaround his last year when the team finished 8-6 in the Big South and had a home tourney game. It's arguable that Nestor is a better coach. Personally I think we should've held on to Simons just a more years to see what he could really do.

Simons was here for 10 years & had 1 winning season 96-97 16-14, no conference championships and no prior experience at the D1 level. I'm not arguing that Nestor is better, possibly more experienced but what really counts is the W-L which, except for 06-07, isn't great for either. At the end of the day I just want to see the team win. I think that this team is as talented as the 06-07 team. The big difference I see now vs. then is the lack of confidence and intensity. I think the Clemson win did that for us before. It would be nice if the team could pull off a W at UVA today. That may give us the confidence to repeat in the North. (At least that gives me something to cling to).

Simons transitioned us to D-II, finally got better there and won a conference championship there and then was thrown up to D-I with the two year transition that hurt recruiting. Then he had to build a team from basically scratch and finally started doing better in the Big South and what happens, we move again.
Comparing anything from the last 10 years for coaches that were here over much of that transition time isn't fair because things changed so much. In 10 years much of those coaches saw 3 divisions, multiple waiting periods with no chance at postseason, and multiple confereces.

He won a SAC 8 conference tourney the last year in DII. The guys were down double digits late in the 2nd half and came back to beat Lenoir-Rhyne in the championship game. I believe we lost to Elizabeth City State in the first round of the NCAA tourney.
Go Phoenix!
