The New Year is hear, lets hope we keep up the old trends when it comes to conf play. Next up is Cit and CoCwe should win both these games giving us a 5-1 record going into Davidson. It will be tough bu I think we have a good shot on this one. The odds are in our favor. 1 its a home game. 2 its a late night game. Even If we do only go 2-1 out of that stretch we will be sitting pretty in conf standings. So heres to a New Year, let our boys start it right..... .... .... .... Oh yea let the girls start it off right too

Hope you are right - although I do not see the CoC game as a win.

i think some our fans are ridiculous....our team loses to the defending ivy leag champs(which they have won numerous times) on the road and we complain...we had atleast 2 players injured in that game Be realisitic...EU has one of the bottom 3 basketball jobs in our league AT BEST but our team is 3-1. If you disagree--consider this-- which teams have worse/smaller gym with no winning tradition?(davidson, utc, c of c have tradition) --D2 and NAIA dont count with kids now that was 30 years ago what team has a worse locker room than elon?--important for recruiting... who has harder academics? EU wont accept some of the players we play against how many teams only have 3 asst coaches and no secretary? and our coaches are probably paid at the bottom of the league and we have one less coach...who has a smaller budget for recruiting, visits, equipment, etc...? Elon is in one of the worst situations( bottom 1/2 in all those things) but we want top 1/2 results....thats crazy look at the top teams...they have better gyms...more tradition...more $$...more support(coaches,secretary,etc..) so lets say EU is recruiting the same kid Dav or UTc is recruiting....why would he chose EU? the other schools will make sure he knows all of the negative info before he makes his decision

moe i disagree with some of your statements. first off Davidson has stricter academic requirements then us and they don't give a break to athletes. Look at what they've done. when it comes to size were not so far out Chat Capacity: 11,218 App Holmes Center (8,325) opened 2000 WCU Capacity: 7,826 Citadel Capacity: 6,000 Davidson Capacity: 5,700 Furman Capacity: 5,000 GSU Capacity: 4,378 Wofford Capacity: 3,500 CoC Home Court (Capacity): ........ John Kresse Arena (3,500 UNCG Capacity: 2,320 Elon Capacity: 1,558 A majority of the socon is less then 5000 not far ahead of us. On top of that we are building a new arena. A 10000 seat convention center. were in the process of getting the money. when we build that we will be in the top 3. But all that aside the socon coach's have said that Elon is the toughest place to play. I guess its our small gym size puts the crowd closer to the court. Money well you have to look at it, were private we have no state support when it comes to money. Look at our graduates there all young. they have not had the chance to make that expendable income. but that will come in the future. we may not be there but were on the right path. every road has bumps and some fans may turn away awhile but were a work in progress.

I actually agree with what Moe is saying here. And whether people believe so or not, Davidson offers a lot more when it comes to basketball than Elon does. I don't know about what other schools gyms look like because I have no been able to attend games outside of Elon, but I do believe that the school could be doing a better job recruiting when it comes to basketball. Getting in to Elon as an athlete is easier than getting in to the school as a regular student. The standards are much lower than the current average standard so getting good athletes in here shouldn't be an issue. We have the campus, the student body is finally starting to come around, and academically offer a degree that is worth a lot more than a lot of the other schools in the conference. I am now a senior and the support overall athletically has improved a ton since my freshman year. The football team was able to recruit great athletes in to the program, even after having a 3-8 season and the future looks amazing for them. It's all because of coaches. The administration did what they had to bring in an amazing coaching staff. A staff that could sell great athletes on the future of the program and not the past. I thought that while the basketball team had a break out year two years ago was awesome, it wasn't because of coaching. It was because the team was able to come together and everything clicked at the right time. They got hot and ran with it. Last year showed the state that the program is really in. I felt then that we needed to find a new coach because nestor wasn't effective and I still believe now that there are much better coaches out there that with everything the school has to offer, would be willing to take the job. Nestor has yet to have an effective season as a coach. Unless the players come together and are all on the same page playing their own style, like two years ago, this season is going to be another dismal one. Playing from behind and trying to come back is already starting to catch up to them.

im not against the team dont get me wrong, the only thing im disagreeing with is the statement we are behind the other teams and out of the norm. Nester has struggled but im not one to say that he should be gone yet. one other thing to look at is how our fund raising has increased over the past few years. give some time for that money to be spent, Blank to make some changes, and more students to realize that Sports are cool and I thinkwe will be doing fine in recrutement

I can guarantee you that getting in as an athlete is not easier than other students. Ask the coaches about some of the players that could have gone to Duke or end up at Furman or other such schools because of the admissions standards which aren't relaxed for athletics.

You know how Davidson gets it done.......THEY DON'T OFFER FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIPS!
Actually, when you get to play Duke annually, UNC, and NC State all in the same year, that helps. When you win year in and year out, you are going to have more to offer. Remember, before McKillop got there, Davidson basketball was in shambles as the whole department was getting ready to go Big South for three years. Its all about winning....and whether or not you're going to be the top dog on campus. There is a reason why App will never have a dynasty in basketball....football rules the day. At UNC, in spite of having a big named football coach, basketball will forever be top dog in Chapel Hill. Having basketball be top dog at a school can do wonders.
What's the solution? Have football tank. Then again, nobody wants that.
By the way, Elon has TWO, yes, TWO secretaries. I can see why you'd be fooled...they aren't called secretaries, but rather "program assistants."
I would not say a better gym gets it done. If that were the case, UNCG would be totally screwed. Actually, Wofford would be, too. And tell that to Furman...5,000 seat Timmons Arena is currently giving the Paladins a 1-11 record. Sure, they were "ok" before this, but it has been a while since Furman has had a good team. The Citadel....big arena, THE worst program year to year in the SoCon. Why? Well, they care about football and baseball there. Not good when you are #3 on your own campus.
Sometimes, its about egos...they want to be top dog on campus and if not, then they're gone. Furman....a football school. The Citadel....football and baseball. Davidson...football doesn't get schloarships. UNCG...football doesn't exist. C of C...more of the same.
But believe it or not, Elon has FAAAAAAAAAR more money then it had in 2003...heck make that 2005 because the disparity was almost as large. The smaller sports are getting more scholarships. If that's happening, something has to be going right.
As far as Nestor is concerned, unless they pull off a strong finish, it's not looking good for him. Dave Blank is making bigger moves now and it was evidenced when he fired the women's soccer coach, who had only been there for three years. He wasn't going to fire anyone in the first year, but this year, its a far different story. Once that move is made, I'm sure basketball will go under a similar transformation as football did....that is if Nestor can't get it done.
