Kind of surprised nobody has started a thread on game tomorrow night...although I guess it's a good thing we were not looking past Citadel...now it's time to focus. I hope our students come out in force and fill the Nest. Attendance has been sparse lately...although so many weeknight games have not helped. I think we can...and will win tomorrow night. Please try to come out and cheer loudly for our guys...let them hear our support!!!

I suspect the game being on Valentine's Day could hurt attendance. A win against ASU would be huge and give the guys some momentum for the remaining 4 games. ASU is tought to figure out lately. They need OT to defeat the Citadel and then stomp Wofford. I'm hoping to catch the tail end of the game via the internet.

Oh yeah...Valentine's Day...good point, '99. Hopefully it is "just another day" for enough Elon people to fill our stands with more Phoenix than M'neers. ASU may look past us to "G" and probably even more so to Davidson. (not to insult Furman or WCU, but ASU probably does not see either of them as more of a threat than they would see Elon).

Anyone going to the game please print off the $20 bill. Apps player McLaughlin was arrested in hS for counterfiting. We have done this past 3 years. If I remember correctly It was origional Phanatic Nick that brought this to my attention and I along with a few other printed off the 20's for the game. OTA did a little photo shop for the next year and we have this bill here. If we get enough people waveing it we can get in his head, i know we did my junior and senior years. here is the pict. the link for easier printing is here: org.elon.edu/phanatics/flyers/pic_20-bill-appstate.jpg

IMO, we definately have the talent to win. Which Elon team shows up and which game plan we are packing will be the determining factors.

The boys really did an exceptional job tonight. They came out a little flat after the half but they gathered themselves and from that point on the game seemed well in hand. 59% shooting, lots of points in the paint... This is the team I expected from the beginning of the year. Many congrats!

Huge win all around. Best first half I've seen in a LONG time from Elon basketball. They seemed to have so much energy, excitment, and pride tonight. Totally different team; and I'm GLAD THEY ARE BACK.
If you were there tonight, you probably saw alot of things different. Ola told me last night that Nestor just completely changed everything to get out of the slump. For example, during time outs they bring chairs onto the court, switched up the starting 5, etc.. I'm very pleased with the way Adam and TJ are stepping up.

I wasn't able to make it tonight, but it looks from the live stats that Elon played a really solid game. James has been tearing it up lately and Waters has really stepped it up. Glad to see everyone contributing. I'm glad to see Nestor making adjustments and let's hope the guys can continue this run. If there is one thing you can count on is a win against Appy in hoops each year.
Go Phoenix!

We used them when he was in.. which was only 4 minutes. Our heckling was pretty good tonight.. App was obviously frusterated by alot of things on and off the court. When the guy picked up the technical in the second half, their coach literally threw him off the bench.
We had the "Back to Boone" chant going at the end and we got some pretty nasty look from the App fans (who were in full force tonight.)

Go read the App ST board, it's pretty funny. These guys LOVE to knock Elon. The only problem is, they generally lose to Elon in most sports except for football. Many of them are calling the loss a true embarrassment. The true embarassment to their school is losing by 25+ in baseball like they have done MANY times in the not so distant past.
One even said that Elon had no fans, no atomosphere and they hate our "cracker box." Too bad they only saw it this year. I've seen that gym rockin' against less stellar teams than App in previous years. I guess App fans are just bitter they lost to "lil' ole Elon" yet AGAIN!!
All I have to say is, wait until next football season. Elon will smote their ruin all over the mountain side. App nation will crumble when it happens.

The ASU fans may be right about us not having many fans there...at beginning of the game, I counted less than 100 (maybe closer to 60) students there...more filtered in, but it was never remotely close to full. ASU did not bring as many fans as they may have in past years either...perhaps Valentines Day did keep some people away. Was amazed to read stats after the game and see Brett's point total...seemed that he missed far more baskets than he hit. Not sure why, but his shot was just flat last night...not his usual touch. He played with intensity though. Not that I had a lot of respect for A's coach, but I lost it totally when he did not yank #2 thug after clearly inappropriate behavior (and a technical). His team seems to have a bad attitude in general...appeared that one of the assistant coaches yanked the second guy charged with technical away from ref...Fansler did not seem to come close to chewing him out. Two players mouthing off badly enough to get technicals in one game...shows a less than disciplined team. Noted quote from Fansler in paper this morning talking about Elon being physical...well, it they were, it was self-defense...ASU players throw their elbows and bodies into opponents hard enough that it appears they are trying to hurt, rather than play a game. They clearly try to win by intimidation. Was proud of our guys for not backing down from them. I know that basketball has become a physical sport, but in my opinion, if you have talent, you don't have to play with brute force.

You are right on about the fan situation at Alumni. I have a number of friends who are App grads and it was mildly embarrasing to see the deserted student section and hear rhe crickets hum in the background. There were two guys up front early on that looked like Cameron Crazy holdouts from last night jumping up and down and doing the sustained "oooooooooooh" by themselves. Whoever those guys are deserve a big cheer at the next game. I'm not sure what it takes to get Alumni filled. I'm sure that a loosing streak of 6 dosen't help. I'm sure that if we could pull off 76 plus point games with a few power dunks for added excitement would help. As far as the physical play, I personally think that adds excitement to the game too. As long as the refs don't let it get out of hand I say let them play. With a student body of over 4900 they should be ashamed of themselves at the inability to fill a 1500 seat venue. It should be filled with students alone! There's my rant for the day.
Whooo Hooo! We beat App. Sign Ernie to a new 5 year contract!!!
