Here in Danville it's been dropped by Comcast. I wonder if it had anything to do with the switch from Adelphia.

To be fair to Time Warner Cable, ESPN pretty much has a gun to their head and knows it. ESPN asks for ridiculous fees for ESPNU and knows that they can hardball and get it (after all, we sports fans demand it). Of course, Time Warner can simply up their fees to the consumer (now that's an innovative idea ~ LOL). Next time your bill goes up, remember that you're paying for the pleasure of viewing ESPNU. So, no complaints

I definitely don't have any problem paying more. I have the sports tier so I just never understood why they don't add it and charge more for the sports tier. I am no expert on the business of cable, but I just don't get why the huge battle over what ends up being inevitable a year later. Despite all this I would still choose TWC over satellite any day. I have had bad experiences with satellite in the past.
Go Phoenix!

But TW's only adding ESPNU to digital cable, right? So the only way to get ESPNU is to pay $70+ per month.
I'm still hoping internet TV (ESPN360, etc.) will mature to the point where I can subscribe to individual channels online (ie pay $3/mo for the ESPNU feed on the internet) and that will finally crack the cable/satellite companies into offering channels ala carte.
I refuse to pay $70+ per month for the 10 channels I watch and the 200 I don't watch.

ESPN reaches more of U Network joins Time Warner's basic digital package DAVID SCOTT dscott@charlotteobserver.com Time Warner Cable customers can now watch Charlotte-based ESPNU on the system’s basic digital tier (channel 138).Dan Margulis, Charlotte resident and ESPNU's director of programming and acquisitions, can finally face his neighbors today.
"It's depressing when you work so hard on something and your friends around the neighborhood can't see it," Margulis said. "Or they think you're making it up."
After 21/2 years, Margulis' neighbors and the rest of Mecklenburg County's Time Warner Cable customers can watch Charlotte-based ESPNU on the system's basic digital tier (channel 138). Today's highlight: A football game between Murray State and Louisville at 7:30 p.m.
ESPNU is devoted almost exclusively to college sports, sprinkling in events like high school football and soccer's U-17 World Cup, as well as a heavy dose of high school football and basketball recruiting.
When ESPNU was launched in 2005, the network's Bristol, Conn., headquarters decided to house it in a 44,000-square-foot building in Ballantyne, where ESPN Regional Television was located.
It was a coup for Charlotte, already the country's major player in sports television syndication, thanks to the longtime existence of Lincoln Financial (formerly Jefferson Pilot) Sports and partner Raycom Sports.
"Like Hartford (Conn.) is known for insurance, syndicated sports television will always be known as having its roots in Charlotte," said ESPNU vice president and general manager Burke Magnus.
But Charlotte's Time Warner-served viewers had a problem: ESPNU was available only on the system's premium-priced tier of channels. That was solved this year when ESPN parent Disney Corp. reached a national corporate affiliate deal with Time Warner.
By Friday, ESPNU will be available on Time Warner systems around the country -- doubling its viewership to 20 million and bringing the network to seven of the country's 10 largest cable companies. It still can't be seen on basic tiers on Comcast, the country's biggest system, or satellite systems like DirecTV or Dish Network.
ESPN Regional sits a few hundred yards off Ballantyne Commons Parkway, unnoticed by even the most avid of Charlotte's sports fans. It's the largest syndicator of college sports programming in the country, producing more than 900 events a year. It's also home to the Big 12's studio and highlight shows.
The building is full of screening, control and editing rooms, two large studios and a library stuffed with 40,000 tapes. More than 100 miles of cable is stored in the building.
In one studio, ESPNU's "SportsCenterU" is broadcast Thursday and Saturday during football season, more frequently during basketball season. The show's new anchor, Lowell Galindo, 26, replaces Mike Hall, who arrived at the network after winning ESPN's "Dream Job" contest in 2004. Hall is working for the Big Ten Network.
Tale of the Syndicated Tape
With ESPN Regional Television and Lincoln Financial Sports (and its partner, Raycom Sports) in Charlotte, the city is a hub for syndicated sports television. Here's a look at the two companies.
ESPN REGIONAL TELEVISION
• Produces more than 900 events -- including football, basketball, golf and National Hot Rod Association.
• Production headquarters for ESPNU and syndication rights holder and producer of highlight and studio shows for the Big 12.
• Markets and/or owns college bowls in Las Vegas, Honolulu, Birmingham, Ala., Fort Worth, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M.
LINCOLN FINANCIAL/RAYCOM
• Owns television rights to ACC and SEC football and basketball.
• Owns and operates LPGA tournaments in Mobile, Ala., and Sacramento, Calif.
• Owns and operates Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
