SoCon Coaches Select James to All-League Squad 3/6/2008
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon junior guard Brett James (Richmond, Va.) was named an All-Southern Conference performer on Thursday afternoon by the league's coaches. The SoCon coaches name one 10-player team to all-conference distinction. This is the first career All-SoCon selection for James who was an all-freshman honoree in 2005-06.
James was Elon's top scorer and rebounder in 20 conference contests, averaging 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per league game. In an overtime victory at Wofford, James netted a season-best 25 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range. In that same game, he rejected a career-best four shots. He posted two double-doubles in SoCon play - at Appalachian State (16 points, 10 rebounds) and at Davidson (13 points, 11 rebounds).
Overall, James averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over 28 games for the Phoenix this season. He shot 40.4 percent from the field, passed for 36 assists, blocked 16 shots and swiped 29 steals.
At one point this season, James put together a 12-game stretch during which he did not score fewer than 11 points or have fewer than five rebounds.

Atoybei Claims All-SoCon Honors 3/4/2008
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference Sports Media Association announced its 2008 Men's Basketball All-SoCon teams on Tuesday and among the honorees was Elon's junior forward Ola Atoyebi (Chicago, Ill.). Atoyebi was named to the third team by the league's media and was the lone selection from the Phoenix program which will enter Friday's SoCon Tournament as the seventh seed.
Atoyebi averaged 11.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in league games. He shot 54.8 percent from the floor and 71.2 percent from the line. In Southern Conference action he also recorded 10 assists, 20 steals and eight blocked shots to help lead Elon to a 9-11 league mark.
Overall, Atoyebi averaged a team-best 12.6 points and team-leading 6.1 rebounds over 29 games. Of his 177 total rebounds, 83 were on the offensive end of the court. Atoyebi shot 56.8 percent from the field and 75.6 percent from the charity stripe while passing for 16 assists, blocking 12 shots and swiping 30 steals.
Atoyebi reached the 20 point plateau three times this season, including a career-best of 25 points against Tusculum. He had double-doubles against both Georgia (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Tusculum (13 rebounds).
This was the first All-SoCon selection for Atoyebi.
