The SoCon announced today that the tournament will be back in Charleston in 2008 before going to Greenville, S.C. for '09 and back to C-town in '10.

That straight up blows. THey need to rotate to other cities instead of just giving El Cid and Furman home field!!!!!!!

It won't be home field for Furman. It'll be at a neutral site - where the Greenville Drive play.

I'm surprised they didn't throw Cary a bone in '10 since they also submitted a bid that seemed competitive from a facilities standpoint at least. I hate that it's in Charleston again, but at least there might be some fairness in '09.

Yeah, but where are you going to put it that it's not pseudo-home field for somebody? Charleston it's CoC/Citadel, Greenville it's Furman/Wofford, Charlotte it's Davidson, Greensboro it's UNCG/Elon. The only sensible sites that don't have a school really close are Raleigh/Durham/Cary and Asheville, and I think any place like that without a good base of hometown fans will struggle with attendance and revenue. Charleston makes sense (but only as part of a rotation, not as a permanent site), Greenville makes sense, Charlotte makes sense, Greensboro makes sense. To me Charleston is the worst of that group because it's not centrally located within the conference footprint like the others are. Looking at the map I'd say the best location is Greenville or Charlotte, with Asheville next and Greensboro & Charleston after that. The map also highlights the advantage of adding a Coastal Carolina or similar school on the northern coast to expand the footprint north and east.

My point was if they had a rotation in the tourney that would be fine. Keeping it in Chuck town makes no sense at all!

Charlotte makes the most geographical sense, but did they even bid on it?
