Kennedy Adds Four Baseball Signees

ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball coach Mike Kennedy today annouced the addition of four players who have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Phoenix next season. Joining the club for the 2008 campaign will be: Bennett Davis (Katy, Texas/Manatee CC), Thomas Girdwood (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park HS), Cory Harrilchak (Cary, N.C./Cary HS) and Michael Lobacz (Acworth, Ga./Young Harris).
Davis, a 5-10, 185-pound third baseman, comes to Elon after playing at Manatee Community College in Florida for two seasons. In 2007, Davis batted .401 with 13 doubles, two triples and four home runs en route to first team all-conference and first team all-state honors. Manatee’s 2007 offensive MVP, Davis helped the squad achieve a No. 3 state ranking. Davis spent the 2006 year at Blinn College in Texas where he hit .205 in 19 games. Davis was a two-time all-district infielder as a prep at Cinco Ranch High. Davis is playing this summer for the Front Royal Cardinals of the Valley League where he was selected to the all-star team after batting .278 and leading the team in both runs scored (16) and RBI (14). Bennett is the son of Gary and Debbie Davis.
Girdwood, a 6-3, 196-pound pitcher/outfielder, was named First Team All-Mecklenburg as a pitcher by The Charlotte Observer in 2007. Girdwood notched a no-hit performance, striking out seven, in a 3-1 victory over Central Cabarrus. He has also been a member of the Sports Leadership Conference. Thomas is the son of Jeff and Maggie Girdwood.
Harrilchak, a 5-11, 180-pound outfielder/pitcher, batted .480 his senior season and was a two-time all-conference selection. He was also a two-time academic all-conference choice and earned all-conference accolades four times as a wrestler where he was a member of the 2002 and 2005 state title squads. Cory is the son of Gary Harrilchak and Betsy Dassau.
Lobacz, a 6-2, 210-pound corner infielder, transfers to Elon from Young Harris College where he played for two seasons. In 2007, Lobacz batted .304 with 56 runs scored, 14 doubles and seven homers. He drove in 58 runs and posted a .465 slugging percentage to help Young Harris to a 46-22 season and GJCAA Region XVII titles in both 2006 and 2007. In 2006, he was chosen to the Georgia JC Regional Tournament Team. As a prep at Blessed Trinity High, Lobacz claimed all-county honors four times. In 2004 he batted .465 with 23 doubles, five homer and 49 RBI.
