Summer Seasons Conclude for Elon Baseball Players
Four Players Compete for League Titles

ELON, N.C. – Elon baseball players recently completed playing in summer leagues around the nation highlighted by the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League claiming the league crown with the help of rising junior Pat Irvine (Westwood, Mass.) and rising sophomore Ryan Adams (Burlington, N.C.). Along with the Valley League, the Phoenix had players in the Cape Cod League and the Northwoods League.
The Waynesboro Generals took home the Lineweaver Cup with a 6-3 victory over the Luray Wranglers on August 10. Adams went 2-for-5 with a run and RBI in the victory.
For the year, Adams led the squad with a .309 batting average, scored 21 runs and drove in 23 in 48 contests to help the Generals to a 37-16-1 record this summer. Irvine, a Valley League All-Star Game participant, ended the summer with a .265 average, scored 41 runs and drove in 32 over 52 games.
Also playing in the Valley League was incoming transfer Bennett Davis (Katy, Texas) who played for the Front Royal Cardinals and was named to the All-League team at third base after hitting .280 with 36 runs, 30 RBI, 14 doubles and 14 stolen bases.
Rising junior pitcher Steven Hensley (Asheville, N.C.) played for the Bourne Braves in the prestigous Cape Cod League this summer. The Braves finished the year with a 25-17 record to claim the regular season West Division title. Hensley finished the season with a 4-2 record and a 3.89 ERA. He threw 37.0 innings and struck out 35 while walking only 10 hitters. Hensley allowed just 35 hits.
In the Northwoods League, rising junior Chris Dove (Graham, N.C.) and rising sophomore Chase Austin (Charlotte, N.C.) played for the Duluth Huskies, rising junior Tom Porter (Huntersville, N.C.) played for the Mankato Moondogs while rising sophomore Daniel Britt (Chadbourn, N.C.) played for the Battle Creek Bombers.
Austin and Dove are still playing as the Huskies earned a spot in the Northwoods playoffs. In the regular season, the Huskies went 41-27. Austin batted .328 in 43 regular season contests. He scored 20 runs and drove in another 11 while stealing five bases. Dove hit .238 in 54 games. He has scored 22 runs and swiped 22 bases in 24 attempts.
The Moondogs finished their season at 35-32. Porter made 12 appearances, going 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA. He hurled 14.0 innings and held opponents to a .170 batting average.
For Battle Creek, Britt made 11 appearances and worked 58.2 innings. The team went 26-41 for the season.
