Dance Team Competes at UDA National Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Elon Dance Team competed in the Universal Cheer Association/Universal Dance Association National College Championship on Jan. 16th-19th. A total of 90 schools were represented at the competition.
"For our first year competing, our performance was strong and we learned a lot that will help us in future years," said head coach Christine Martin. "We got high remarks from the judges and exceptional freedback from the crowd. We were very well received for our first year competing at this level."
The dance teams were split into divisions based on the size of the school. Elon placed 19th in its division of 24 teams.
At the beginning of the school year, Martin held tryouts among the team to select the 10 members (out of 22 total members) that would be part of the competition squad. A choreographer from Los Angeles came to Elon to teach the team a custom dance. In November, the team submitted a video entry and then received an invitation to come dance at the competition.
"It was such an awesome experience to go to this competition for our first time. We are so thankful to all the people that supported us," said sophomore Lauren Bowen. "We had such an awesome time. We hope to go in the future and keep building on our program."
