The Pendulum has confirmed that Trip's contract was not renewed: www.elon.edu/pendulum/Story.aspx?id=1844Regardless who was the primary driver behind the move - Dave Blank or Brian Tracy or whoever - it was a classless move. Trip has always done a great job, is 100% committed to Elon's success, and is president of his professional association. Will his replacement breathe new life into the program? Perhaps. But "new" doesn't necessarily mean "better." And at what cost?

Watch out now, dont go throwing out names. Brian Tracy is the Assistant Athletic Director of External Affairs and Director of the Phoenix Club. He has nothing to do with Marketing or Trip. In Fact Trip is higher on the food chain than Brian Tracy.
This is a Kyle Wills/Dave Blank move with the emphasis more on Dave Blank. I dont see Kyle making this move.
My only thoughts (besides it being classless and a useless move) is someone must be lined up for this job. They have to think something better is around the corner because I can not even think of another idea.
The one thing I am wondering is if there is any fallout in the athletic department. I feel like there were a lot of friends with Trip. Makes me wonder how safe Kyle Wills and Clay Hassard are.

Didn't Trip leave and come back a few years ago? I suppose it's a two way street. Elon supported that decision and welcomed him back with open arms. That doesn't mean he's locked in for life. Ultimately that's what contracts are in place for, so not sure what's "classless" about it.
As much as we want change and to move forward, we get upset when things do change. Blank can't seem to win for losing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is the right decision, but let's at least see what happens. If we expect the athletics program to grow like we all want it to, we need to be able to accept change and support the decisions they make.
Trip is a good guy and will land on his feet where ever he ends up.
Go Phoenix!

Pretty sure it is common knowledge that Trip reported directly to Tracey for a while now...he had to be the one to fire him.
If you don't think it's classless, then you really don't know Trip and his passion for Elon and doing the best job possible.
If Elon recovers, it will take a while.

might be part of the ISP contract as Trip pretty much single handedly did the promotions as ISP must be taking this over..... young guys in suits at signing day luncheon. i mean really young. Tripp Durham owes nothing to Elon he was 110% Elon a really fine young man.

Me either trip was an all around great guy. I had the most dealings with him with the phoenix phanatics, and he was always there to help. Could be wrong, but i dont see brian and trip going at it, and i dont know Blank enough to comment

Anyone know why this move was made? I'm been looking around but can't find anything on it.
I must say, I try really hard not to dislike moves that Elon makes, but I think this is one of the bigger mistakes Elon has made during my time as a student here. Tripp is a nice guy and has been great as the 'Voice of the Phoenix.' I don't like that the ISP seems to be taking over everything for Elon, from this to the decreasing number of games students get to call for WSOE (particularly baseball). Come on Elon.

I definitely agree that ISP will more than likely be taking over the Radio and other major marketing operations, but its the little stuff Trip was good at that I am worried about.
ISP doesn't do game operations/management, or the promotional activities, or even small guy local grassroots marketing. They are all about the big guy and the mighty dollar (which is great for the program financially, but bad for local and fan support).
I hate to see Trip go and hopefully they find an amazing candidate to take his place and improve on everything Trip was able to create. But still not sure letting someone go was the best, I think a couple more marketing staff would have been much more adventagous.

Maybe the Pendulum should dig and do an investigative report on all the departures from athletic department for the past year or so. Eliminating a good employee, who was also very popular with both fans and students, is not the way to increase the percentage of alumni who donate.

I did not realize Blank was so unpopular. I have never met him. But from afar, it appears to me that the programs are progressing overall since he arrived.
