Schermerhorn Leads Phoenix Past N.C. Central 3-0 8/29/2009 DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team defeated host-team N.C. Central 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-12) in the final match of the Hilton RTP/NCCU Tournament in Durham, N.C. Though no tournament champion was named, Elon was the only team to go undefeated during the two-day, eight-team event. Sarah Schermerhorn continued her solid opening weekend with match-high nine kills and a hitting percentage of .500. Traci Stewart finished with seven kills, while Lauren Copenhagen and Caroline Lemke tallied six and five kills, respectively. As a team, Elon hit .303, including a blistering .476 attack percentage in the final set. Emily Regan led the team in assists with 16, while Megan McMahon finished with eight. Leading the Phoenix defensive attack that held the Eagles to a -.031 hitting percentage was Lemke with three block assists. Stewart and freshman duo Celia Eddy and Allison Johnson each recorded two assisted blocks. Belin Behncke-Biney led the Eagles with seven kills, followed by Avaniki Campbell and Shantel Moore with five and four kills, respectively. Sashalee Wallen tallied two kills. Setter Kiara Brown led the match with 17 assists. Defensively, Campbell led N.C. Central with one solo block and four block assists. Moore finished with three block assists. Elon opens its home slate Tuesday September 1 at 7 p.m. when it takes on Charlotte in Alumni Gym. Live stats will be available for the match at www.elonphoenix.com.

Volleyball is now 10-0. Pretty incredible start they are off to and they have won 30 of 35 sets. Hopefully I didn't jinx them, but the future looks bright for them.
