Another Elon team having a good season. I think there is a trend here...
Beeler Paces Elon to Record Finish in SoCon Championship Elon Finishes Second at League Meet 10/31/2009
ELON, N.C. – Senior Caitlin Beeler finished seventh with a time of 18:54.55 to earn first team all-conference honors and lead the Phoenix women’s cross country team to a program-best second-place finish at the Southern Conference Championship Saturday morning in Elon, N.C. The Phoenix finished one point behind Samford, which won its first SoCon Championship.
Emily Fournier earned a spot on the all-conference second team with a 10th-place finish and a time of 18:58.41. Morgan Denecke and Sullivan Parkes rounded out the all-SoCon performances as members of the all-freshman team. Denecke finished 15th with a time of 19:05.09, while Parkes ran a 19:13.09 for a 22nd-place finish.
“It was an extraordinary day for the women’s program,” head coach Christine Engel said. “To have four runners earn all-conference accolades and to finish second and be just one point away from the league title is truly a testament to how hard these girls ran today.”
Allyson Costa placed 21st with a time of 19:12.44, while Jacqueline Alnes crossed the finish line with a time of 19:45.32 for a 44th-place finish. Emily Tryon and Lauren Fredrickson rounded out the field for the Phoenix with times of 20:00.80 and 20:20.37, respectively.
The Elon runners who did not run at the conference meet will compete in the Pack Invitational tomorrow, Nov. 1. The race is set to begin at 8 a.m.
