After 2 not so impressive wins over lower division teams, Liberty took it to the wire and came "inches" from sending the game into OT with William & Mary.
Shippensburg and Tusculum are not powers, and look somehwat comparable to WVWU. Liberty only outgained Shippensburg by 51 offensive yards, had less 1st downs that Ship and fumbled the ball 3 times. Tusculum also outgained Liberty is 1st downs. LU fumbled the ball twice, and threw for an interception. Liberty also threw 2 INT's v W&M.
By looking at the box score, it doesn't look like the W&M game should've been that close. LU gave up 524 yards of total offense, 353 of those coming through the air (which is good for us).
Hopefully, our young QB will be able to knife through their secondary like W&M. We'll need to put up points early and keep them on their heels. Our tough defense will do the rest.
By the way, I've read a little at the Liberty board. Some of their fans are calling us "overrated."
Thoughts?

Who called you overrated? You haven't played enough to be overrated yet. We were the ones overrated.
And just to point it out, we came "inches" from being able to tie the game in double OT. We drove in the 4th to tie it up on a 2-pt conversion to send it to OT.

Look in the "Sagarin" thread on your board.

Oh, Sagarin's stupid. Your rating is high because you played the I-A game already. Sagarin isn't an accurate depiction of anything. I'm not saying you're overrated, I'm just saying Sagarin is stupid.

Yes, you are correct. The sagarin isn't a very effective tool.

We do have guys thinking we'll beat you pretty good. Why, I don't know. If we can't get solid play from our QB, who knows what'll happen.

In all honesty, if South Florida didn't walk all over us, I don't see how Liberty will.
I said before the season started that this would be a tough game, and right now, there isn't a clear winner. You guys played 2 lower divison teams, and didn't come out with impressive wins.....then you come out and give W&M a game.
We on the other hand, gave South Florida a heck of a game (some on both sides think Elon should've won), then we rip through the D-II team on our sked. We have a strong true freshman QB, strong receivers and a solid D. The only thing we lack lack is a running game.
I won't bother to predict a score, because I really can't tell to much about either team. All I know is that it won't be a blow out either way.
I will be at the game this coming Saturday, and I'm very excited!

EP...we actually may have more of a running game than you are expecting. We showed some good signs in 2nd half against WVAW.

I think that the Flames will be a solid test for us. I listened to W&M game and Liberty played well against the Tribe on the road. We will have to shut down their solid running game. They have a solid, real big running back who regularly picks up 100+ yards per game. They have another rb who also gained over 100+ yards on the ground.
Our defense will have to shut down the Liberty running attackand need alot fewer penalties. Also, our guys must not be looking ahead to the App State game and be focusing on next weekend opposition. This will be a tough test for us. I'm figuring Elon by 14, something like 28-14.

LU played pretty well, but you sure can't overlook how much yardage they gave up! If they expect to win this game, they can't give up 350+ yards through the air.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, it's going to be a tough game.

I really have no idea what to expect from this game. From what I've seen so far, I like our chances. Based on Liberty's first three games you have to believe that Elon will score it's fair share, the key is for the defense to deliver. I've been impressed with the D's ability to stop the run in general, but the key is to avoid those lapses (i.e. WV Wesleyan 2nd quarter) and unnecessary facemasks. I'm not going to predict a score, but I feel confident Elon can win this game. Make a statement!
Go Phoenix!

Don't be scared to pick us to win. Have confidence. We can, should and will beat Liberty.
Oaks 34 Falwell's Boys 17
Riddle will go for over 300 yards in the air again.

The seem to be pretty confident, 1 word undefeated at rhodes aginst LU, and that was back in the segraves era. Liberty should not be taken lightly but we are prepared and are on a stellar season My prediction is App 28 Elon 31. Opps did i just over look. Elon 38 LU 24

It's not a matter of being scared to pick us to win, but the fact of the matter is the games played thus far don't tell us a whole lot about how we match up with FCS competition. I really like what I see from this team and based on how they perform in this game will tell us much more than the USF and WVW game did. I am confident the guys can win, but to appease everyone, I'm going to say 85-7 Elon. ;-)
Go Phoenix!
