Chris Conti: 6'2", 308 lbs, 5.4 40. 4.75 shuttle. OL. Bench-280 lbs, Squat- 450 lbs. knows how to seal off the side. Locks into his man, keeps the feet churning. Can get up under the pads and stand the defender up while blocking, very good technique. Can handle the speed rusher off the edge in pass blocking. Sets up in the "Hannah" chair while pass blocking, Again very good technique. Higher quality player Elon is looking for. Would look very good in the maroon and gold. Plays in Richmond, Va.

Caleb Hines: 5'11", 170 lbs, 4.48 40. ATH. Bench- 190 lbs, Squat- 405 lbs. Being played as a WR, but has toughness. Plays bigger than 170 lbs. Has a second gear, a blow by gear. Smaller slot back with speed. A lot of crossing routes, not afraid to go across the middle. Teammate of Josh Stilley, has Elon as a interest. Worth a long look to be given a number for the maroon and gold. Plays in Cornelius, NC.

Austin Stapleton: 6'5", 290 lbs. OL. Built like a wall. When he blocks the wall moves. When the wall seals the end, the end is sealed. Has good feet. Nice agility. Locks up his man in the trenches. High motor. Already sporting an Elon offer. Would look really good in the maroon and gold. Plays in Montvale, NJ.

How likely is it that Elon has other commits that have not shown up here yet? Unless you are a FCS power (Georgia Southern, App State) in football, its hard to get prospects to commit early. Prospects like to hold out for their "dream school" offer. Many prospects have conditional offers from bigger schools that say if we miss on this prospect, you get his offer. With that being said, I believe Elon is after a lot of prospects with conditional offers. When a player commits to a school, normally their is an assistant A.D. that announces prospect "A" has accepted a scholarship offer to play for Elon. This is then picked up and publicized for us that follow recruiting. I say that to say this, there may be other prospects out there that have told coaches at Elon, your my #1 school. They haven't made it official yet, because they want to visit go through the recruiting process. Campus visits, game tickets, official school Swag gear are all reasons to keep it quiet on a commitment. So to answer your question, I believe there are some soft verbal commitments out there, but nothing official. If I was to create a Top 10 wish list with the prospects we know have an interest in Elon, it would go something like this: OL-Nathan McConnell : Offensive Guard, 6'5" , 305 lbs, Jacksonville, NC (2 star) (Commit) WR-Nat Dixon: 6'5", 175 lbs, 4.6 40. Lynn Haven, Fl. (3 star) ATH-Taylor Woods: 5'8", 182 lbs, 4.4 40. Athlete. Havelock, NC. (2 star) OL-Trey Ratliff: 6'5", 275 lbs, OL, Wake Forest, NC (2 star) WR-Malik Wilson: 6'0, 170 lbs, 170 lbs. WR. Mebane, NC (2 star) ATH-Keegam Karim: 6'2", 180 lbs, Ath. Kennesaw, Ga. (2 star) LB-Sam Blue: 6'3", 215 lbs, 4.57 40. OLB. Raleigh, NC (2 star) WDE-Josh Armstrong: 6'3", 231 lbs, WDE, Fayetteville, NC. (2 star) DT-Tyler Baggett: 6'0", 265 lbs, DT, Woodstock, Ga QB-Hasaan Klugh: 6'3", 185 lbs, DT-QB, Concord, NC (2 star) Give me these 10 as my core commitments and in 2 yrs Elon's football program would start to turn. Now for prospects that are interested in Elon, I don't know that you exist unless you list Elon as an interest. List Elon as an interest and I will profile you.

Looks like an impressive list. But based on previous recruiting classes, I would guess that Elon would be fortunate to get more than 1 or 2. I hope somehow - some wins would help - the coaches have better success this year. I heard on Swepson's radio show that Browne felt the last two recruiting classes were much stronger mainly due to Elon's improving football facilities and the beauty of the campus.

I would like to expound on the statement " Elon's last two recruiting classes have been much stronger mainly due to Elon's improved football facilities and improved beauty of campus". First of all Swepson was hired 23 days before National Signing Day, He had 23 days to put together a class. You can thank the AD for doing a late hire on that one. Swepsons first class was 15 players. 1 WR, 1 OL, 1 DL, 1 LB, 1 DB, and 1 LS are on the two-deep depth chart today. 12 players are juniors out of a possible 44 spots on the two deep. Take out 3 players that were in his first class were redshirted. That leaves 3 signing day guys and a bunch of walk on guys that Swepson is banking on to learn his system and make him a winner. So you ask, what about the seniors and all the other guys? A coach is usually evaluated in is third year on "his" first recruiting class because those are "his" players. The formula is pretty sound, the third year usually makes or breaks a coach and its usually the recruiting class that does it. My familiarity with football also says Elon has a gamechanger that is out of place. He is 2nd string CB #21 Jerrell Armstrong. This guy has been clocked at 4.23 in the 40. You have to tell me why he is not lined up in the slot and running the jet sweep 8 times a game. Acha (OT) and Wagner (OG) could seal the side, pull Johnson (OC), let the WR hit the LB on that side.......4 times to the left, 4 times to the right.....sets up play action and also the dive. Armstrong, unless he has a fumbling problem, could be the guy that brings the roar back in the stadium. I have gotten off track, my point is his stadium and beauty of the college sounded good, but the mere fact you had a whole recruiting cycle was going to produce better results than the first year.

(((( HOT NEWS )))) Elon has been listed on a prospects list as a school of interest
Jonathan Trull: 6'4", 285 lbs. OL/DT. Looking like an OT at the present moment. Can still add muscle and be a really mean DT. Good motor and wide base while blocking. Locks into his man and starts driving. Gets under the pads well. Technique is sound, very mechanical. Big space eater while playing DT. Has the grades. Elon should take a long look at putting him in the maroon and gold. Plays in Charlotte, NC.

Not sure I follow your logic here. Isn't he relying on the six that are in the two deep?
Who do you think are the "gems" in the 2013 class and why?

Post by fightingchristianlb on Sept 8, 2013 0:45:17 GMT -5
Here's the logic. The 3 guys are starters: Odell Benton-SLB- true Jr. Thomas McGuire-OG-rSo. Andre Dawson-WR-rSo. The other three are redshirt So. The issue is you cant redshirt your first class and I will tell you why. These guys need to learn your system, on defense and offense. Swepson is a new coach, bringing in new OC and DC. How many times have you heard "its a young offense, we aren't going to give them the whole playbook yet"? That's whats happening each year, all of your first class is getting more and more of the playbook and by the 3rd year 80-100% of the playbook, which includes all formations, is installed. That's another reason for hearing the phrase "the new coach is getting the upper classman to buy into his system". The present Sr's get about 10%-20% of what the new coach wants to do. The present Jr's will end up getting 25%-40% of the new system. Present So's will get 40%-55%. Then your first class gets 75%-85% of the system by the time they are Jr's. This is the class you are banking on for your job security. Swepson has 3 guys to bank on and none of them is at the QB position. I hope I explained where I was coming from on this. One last point is there are systems out there that increase the learning curve and help you win faster. Option systems and zone read systems are easy offenses to run without having huge amounts of skill at the skill positions. Defenses that use Zone and Cloud read and react are known as bend but don't break defenses. Now if the defense is going to run a Zone Blitz scheme or Press man to man then the coach will have to have more skill players for that.
