I'm not a big fan of playing the 1-A schools because it's not worth losing players to injuries in a game that we have little chance of winning. I attended the Wake game a few years ago when we were a competitve team; thinking we could pull off an upset but still lost 35-7. The UNC game was a total disaster plus it had to have been close to 100 degrees at game time. My wife and I had to leave our seats before the end of the 1st quarter because of the heat. At least the Wake game was at night. Go Phoenix!! GT 55 Elon 3 It's a double edged sword. We basically stand our guys up as a scout team with no emotional ties. This risks injury to the individuals and the team, but $450k goes a long way toward helping our program.

Welcome to the board GT any suggestions on places to hit while down there. Im planning on going to our pregame then make the hike over to the Varsity. I’m making the trip down with my wife and ElonPuckhog. I do not have high expectations due to the option but I’m hoping our offense can put up a few points.

Hmmm, nothing I can think of in particular, but DragonCon will be going on downtown. If you've never seen it, it's definitely interesting. Thousands of people walking around in all the sci-fi costumes. Also, the Alabama-VT game will be happening right down the street at the dome. There are generally a bunch of things going on around that like free concerts.
As for the Varsity, if you've never been, go. But know that you're going for the experience and not the meal itself.
For real restaurants while you're here there are a lot of great places, but if you're going on Saturday or maybe even Sunday, I'd drive north a little to midtown as the downtown restaurants will be crowded. Plus midtown is nicer.

I read on another board that Elon was receiving $600k for the GT game. Is this accurate? If so, I take back my earlier post about playing 1-A schools. LOL.

Think I saw they had a bye week 2? Shucks - was hoping they may look past us, kind of like So. Florida didm when they were going to face Auburn the next week - we still lost the game, but with respect. I know the check is great for our program...but can we recruit top players if we have many games like the UNC game last year? I know...it was first year with their coach...they were on probation and ready to show up whoever they played...but we soundly lost to both Duke and Wake, with what one may have considered 'good' teams. I so hope that I'm wrong - but I expect Saturday to get ugly really fast...unless our defense forces a bunch of turnovers. I doubt we have as many fans at this game as we have had travel to other opening games (Tampa, Nashville, Richmond).

Well, tomorrow is game day. Here's to an injury free, hard fought game. For those driving to the game or traveling this weekend. Safe travels!

Anybody have an injury update? And, why isn't the Burlington Times doing their weekly football show?
