Just curious what you guys hope to see from Elon in the game against Duke. A win would probably be pie in the sky thinking, but surely there are some things you'd like to see, signs of hope. What are they?

A touchdown, a field goal, some form of points. Plus a coach thats not arguing with the officials..... Sorry mind drifted to the past two years for a sec. Id like to be within two or three scores by the end of the third. Theres no doubt they are deeper in the bench then us but if we can hang on for 3 I'll be happy

How about improvement over last year's output versus an ACC foe. A score period would be a good start Minimize turnovers. The defense should be better, so I look forward to that.....but will the offense be able to move the ball at all to keep them off the field? Opening the season versus an ACC team that is nearly ranked, and coming of a great appearance in a bowl game to end last season, spells trouble.

It would be great if the coaching staff comes out taking a chance on a big play right out of the gate. Also, it would be nice to see the linebackers causing problems by blitzing like it’s no tomorrow. We can’t go in there timid or afraid. Hopefully we see some execution on offense and some discipline on defense. Most important of all we need to show some Heart!

this is not a Duke team that lost to Richmond... they are talented and confident and are probably 2 to 3 touchdown favorite As for Elon , they have not shown well the last 2 ACC match-ups. UNC & Ga Tech were not a contest. I do not see Duke running it up but it is our responsibility to not let them. We will have to control the ball and that means moving it and getting some stops on defense. Duke has had some heavy pre-season injuries to MLB and tight end. FWIW. Just take the money leave quietly. jmho

When Lembo arrived, the offense could move the ball from the beginning, as I recall. I would like to see this year's team do the same thing!

When Lembo arrived we had Wes Pope. After going to the scrimmage last night I can honestly say, be happy with any score against Duke. Our QBs look to have regressed. They don't seem to be able to go through any progressions. Unfortunately, the OL doesn't seem to be able to fend off the DL for long either. I really hope I'm wrong,

Do you think this regression is because of a new offensive system? Maybe they just haven't figured it out yet.

I guess I'm hoping that we can leave the game without major injury, physically or emotionally. I've said it every year - playing games when you get whipped so bad in the first game just has to do some psychological damage to these young men...not to mention, it's a fact that FBS programs generally have bigger, stronger guys...and we usually come away with several guys injured. I know that it's a "money game"...but I wonder if it's worth the risks. Yeah, we looked decent at South Florida - but they were likely looking ahead to their game vs Auburn the next week. Duke is not looking ahead to anybody next week...and look what UNC and GA Tech did to us. I'm opposed to these ACC openers. Do I want to think we will surprise Duke? Of course...but do I expect us to...no. Still, I'm going to the game and will support our guys' effort.

I really like the business strategy of scheduling ACC schools in the south to help with Elon's branding and recruiting, unfortunately we've run into really good ACC teams the past couple of years...who would of thought when we scheduled this DUKE game a couple of years ago that they would be pre-season favorites to win the Coastal Division? DUKE relies on speed and athleticism, so fingers crossed our guys don't take too much of a physical beating as they did last year against G. tech (not to mention all of the BS chop blocks).

I agree with this. The reality is that these days ANY BCS school is going to be far bigger, stronger and faster than we are. So, the opportunity for injuries is very real. I also feel that Swepson went about the games the wrong way. He tried to convince the players that we were going to go out & defeat UNC and GaTech. After the games, he blamed the performance on our players not wanting it badly enough. I know some of you disagree with me on this but IMO the proper way for the coach to go about these games is to tell the players to 1st-DO YOUR JOB EVERY SINGLE SNAP. If this is done, it doesn't matter what happens on the scoreboard, you can be proud as a team with your performance. However, if you do this, you may be surprised at the result.

Every member of the team knows that the odds aren't good against a BCS team. But if they keep their focus on their assignment on every play, who knows...

Hey fellow phoenix fans. Trying to find out how that RS TE pearsall is doing. I try to keep up with the postings from practiceon the website but it doesn't always tell the real story. Like to know from someone that actually goes to the practices or scrimmages. Keeping up with a hometown guy. Hope he has a good season.

He looks to have pretty good hands. He caught 2 or 3 passes last night, one for about 25 yards. He does appear to be slow, although with the taller guys it's sometimes hard to tell when they're running along side a speedy little corner. I didn't pay much attention to his blocking.

Ok thanks, he's definitely got great hands. Probably had the best on Laney's team his whole time on varsity. Yeah i use to think he was a little slow too until i saw him get into open field, he's got a pretty long stride. Hope they make use of him in the red zone.
