A look at where We are for Homecoming this Saturday has to be turning point for this edition and I see some fight left in the Phoenix. All of the 12 games We play are separated by Wins and losses obviously. Now a developing squad sometimes is overmatched but hey there are some pluses and some real negatives to evaluate. I can support them if there is effort and spirit with enthusiasm and an expectation to compete for a victory. Right now and I know it's a team sport but Mike Quinn who hardly lost in High School Has a resume' as a starter of 3-15. It is what it is. Quinn has spread the ball around and has highlighted several targeted receivers the last few weeks but if He does not win this weekend I would begin the next season now and give Loughery some real time experience and do not burn any redshirts but start to give the second and third year guys the bulk of the snaps and develop true depth with some quality playing time. Who plans on attending the game? sitting in the tailgate and watching Duke play does not count.

I watched the Maine/Stony Brook game on MyRDC this weekend, with Stony Brook winning 19-7. I expect Stony Brook to be aggressive defensively, with lots of blitzes and from all over the field. In the Maine game, SBU defense got tougher and tougher as the game progressed. SBU is a very physical team. SBU offense is nothing fancy - handoff to the speedy and tough running back (#21 or #28) that follows the full back about 2/3 of the time. The rest of the time pass to WR. QB runs but not much. They win their games with the stifling defense and ball control (TOP 40 minutes vs 19 for UMaine, Total yds 366 SBU vs 135 UMaine). SBU has averaged 17 points in its 3 wins and given up only 4, and has not scored more than 21 points in any game this season.
This should be a physical game with not a lot of scoring. EU defense will have to stop SBU from grinding it out while preventing the big play. EU Offense will have to convert any red zone visits into points, especially TDs. Field goals could decide the game if we stay with them. Quinn will have to run and scramble just to stay alive, if not Loughery may finally see some time as I believe SBU knocked out Maine starting QB.
I will be there to cheer on the boys.

I plan to be there to cheer on the team as well. I think it's important that we look at more than the final score in the previous games - for the most part, we have a pretty young team and they are facing many of these teams for the first time...and in unfamiliar stadiums. I figured this would be a difficult year, but as long as the guys are trying, I'm behind them 100%. If they start to give up, as they did last year in 2nd half...different story. Every loss is a learning experience - if we can build on what we did wrong or what did we did not do right, and learn from it, I think they will grow as players and as men. I do hope we correct the "anticipated plays" that seem to have occurred in the couple of games I've seen. Hard for offense to do a lot when opposing defense knows the play that is coming. And I agree - we need to be more effective in the red zone. That, I assume, comes with experience. As for the QB question - I have to trust the coach to make the best call for the team. I'm trying not to second guess coach in his first year with the team.

I just hope they can come out hot early, like in the 2nd half versus Delaware. 2 mistakes kept that game from being close.
SB is winnable, but their D looks pretty stingy, only giving up 12.1 ppg. Both teams are only averaging about 14 ppg.
What's concerning is that we haven't seen point production this low since 2003.

If Loughery hasn't gotten into games yet, there's no reason to think anything will change in the last half of the season. I think Skrosky might be focusing on creating a certain team mindset and Quinn, who is a team captain after all, is the best equipped to bring that mindset along. He's made plenty of mistakes, but he keeps fighting. And that's what Skrosky wants to instill, I think. Somewhere along the way, Loughery must have burned a bridge with the coaches, or he would already have seen playing time. Who knows, maybe he pouted after Quinn got the nod. But the QB strategy is intriguing. By sticking with Quinn, they aren't preparing for the future (it's good that they aren't giving up on the present). There doesn't seem to be a lot of confidence in Loughery. So, I'd bet we can expect a freshman leading the O next year -- either a redshirt or a true freshman. That would be interesting.

You get my point why not get Laughery in the last few games and see what develops I know assistants/ coordinators have the say so in who gets the playing time but they should get more playing time to guys build depth Read more: elonphans.proboards.com/thread/3236/stoneybrook-outlook-homecoming#ixzz3GAOxnj97

I think sticking with Quinn is the right decision. He made some great throws in the Delaware game. But Loughery seems to have a great attitude. He was constantly encouraging his teammates during the game.

To be honest , I think the it is obvious that Loughery- for some reason - is not the future. He would be playing in my eyes if he was.
Think about it, Skrosky is building for the future. With that being said, don't you think he would be giving Loughery reps? It's not like Quinn is setting the world on fire. Frankly, he is very pedestrian and has not been more than a game manager. This shows me that he has zero confidence in Loughery. If I were handicapping, I'd say it's Christiansen or Thompson (our only QB committ) at the helm next year.
Just my two cents.

Homer,
I kinda agree with you on your QB statements. I am a Quinn supporter, won't deny it- I am also a realist... Quinn is a 5th yr senior on a team that is in the midst of a major rebuild. He is also getting rocked week in and week out. He is a tough kid, a good leader and mentor to the young guys. He played really well in the 2nd half last week and threw some really nice balls. I was at UD and if there were any a time to make a qb change it would have been at halftime- but Skrosky stuck with Quinn which tells me 2 things... Loughery is not the future and 2. He doesn't want to burn the freshman's redshirt- which makes sense (especially since he needs a yr in weight room-UD was huge and would have killed him) So-read between the lines- Lough isn't the future or not ready and Elon is not good enough to haves a true freshman QB running for his life.

If Loughery is going to be any kind of bridge in this rebuilding effort I believe He should be given the chance to experience meaningful game time action. As the Injured and PUP lists build the OL & DL are getting patchwork depth We do need experience all over the roster but NOT those freshmen that are already being redshirted.

Notafanofme,
We seem to be singing the same song. I, too, like Quinn. I've met him a couple times. Very gracious and warm. And I've heard he takes seriously mentoring the young guys. It's easy to see he doesn't quit and his teammates respect him.
It's also clear that Skrosky has tied his anchor to this boat this season. And I for one hope every remaining quarter this year is like the third quarter last week.
