I see Sowell is back as a starter after being injured. But he is back at tackle. I guess that means McGuire has been doing well at center.

I would love to see us play a competitive game on Saturday, not sure that will be the case. I wonder how we would have done in the SoCon this year? I'm not saying i wish we were still in the SoCon, but i'm just curious to see if we would have been more successful than last year...trying to judge this year's team's on wins and loses is not fair since the competition is so much better in the CAA...

We would have been in the top half of the SoCon. As down as the CAAFB members profess the conference to be, it is nowhere near as down as the SoCon is. WCU is clearly better, Chatanooga sits on top, but the second tier and lower teams are all worse than they were last year. While our W/L record doesn't support it, we are better than last year, especially defensively. We came within seconds of beating Samford and Wofford last year and they are both substantially worse than last year. The other teams are worse than those two, although Furman, while really banged up, (like we are), seems to be holding their own. I still feel that we are where we should be. It'll take us a couple of years but I expect us to be in the thick of the conference in the 2016 season.

Sagarin and Massey both shows us in the 70/80 range, right around Furman.
Believing this type of thing, that would put us borderline with Furman and Mercer and above VMI only.
I would say we would be better, but comparing last year SoCon to this year SoCon isn't comparable either.
Now with that said, I would put us only above VMI. Our defense would keep us in games, but without a offense that can score, we wouldn't win more games than we have overall.

One can ONLY work on themselves and be measured against whom they are placed against. 1 We have a group on the field that fill out their pants & pads go through the motions and the pomp & circumstance of football but do these players 2 Have a drive and a collective desire to win these contests? It is going to take something more than what We have seen the last few seasons no doubt. It is more than X's & O's
They have to play to win.

So the questions I would ask would be: How many SoCon teams do you think would beat Villanova? How many would beat New Hampshire? Richmond? William & Mary? Stony Brook? Delaware? Albany? etc, etc. I would argue that other than Chattanooga, all of the current SoCon teams would have a losing record in the CAA. And I'm not so sure about Chatt.

Absolutely true that the best a D can do is keep you in the game. The O needs to score to have wins.

The good news is this is a relatively young offense. That bodes well for the future.
