I don't have a tab saying "Phoenix Nest." I must not know the secret handshake. PM elonfirefighter for the secret handshake. pc4l, I'm not sure why it was so secret either. However, I do know that Lembo was very selective in who he told about VCs and was vocal in telling the insiders that the less said publicly, the less likely a decommit.

So, back on topic. Let's assume we win one more game this season and therefore end up with identical record with last season. Would this season then be better, the same or worse than last year?

I don't think we can assume another win, but regardless, it's very hard to assign an adjective like "better". Better record? Well obviously, no. Better Defense? I think definitely yes. Better offense? Statistically, no. But, considering the competition, maybe close, very hard to say. Are we in a better place now versus last year at the same time? IMO, absolutely. There is no way to prove this, of course, so it's just conjecture; but if we were in this year's SoCon, we would be in the mix with Wofford, WCU and Samford in the second tier, even with the massive depletion we've had due to injuries. Probably the biggest factor in determining "better", is momentum. Last season at this time we were in a downward death spiral. We ran off the road through the barricades and over the cliff in the 2012 season. So I personally feel that the downward momentum has ceased and we are gathering some upward momentum. This probably won't reach a good speed until Spring 2015 or even Summer Camp 2015 unless we DO win another game this year. But overall, regardless of our final win/loss tally, I think we're in a better place than last year.

there were no cupcakes anywhere on our schedule and were underdogs in every game to rebuild a program will take time but WE must get competitive ASAP If someone is ambitious they can go back the last 4 years and see the players We missed on and that attrition for whatever reason sure out ways the "finds" from walk on's and transfers See who is not on the roster or depth charts will tell a realistic story. It is where We are starting from.

Went to the William and Mary game yesterday and I thought they played good enough to win. Elon had several chances to score and just couldn't punch it in. Two picks in close and one blocked field goal along with a missed field goal. Coppedge(spelling?) ran well, but int. seemed forced and were all in close. Looked much better than they did when I saw the Richmond game and am excited for the future. Offense seems to struggle while the defense plays well. Nice day in Williamsburg, and their fans seemed to appreciate us being there. Many stopped me and along with good conversation always said welcome.

I saw a lot of the same things, 77. Frankly, it looks like the system is good, we just need a few more "it" factor players. It's hard to describe, but, contrary to what some on this board are saying, the play calling looks pretty good. Somehow, though, it just seems forced, not naturally flowing like it was in the late 2000's. The OL did a pretty good job this weekend in helping Coppedge to 120 yards on the ground against a pretty stout DL of W&M. Our D went beyond the call of duty again this weekend. It amazes me, as undersized as we are that we can keep a team like W&M to 17 points when they are on the field nearly 2/3's of the game. That says a tremendous amount about our conditioning and heart. The special teams also seem to be doing their job well with the exception of the field goal unit, (read kicker. He really needs to get his confidence back!).
I know I sound like a broken record, but I see great things coming down the road. We as fans need to understand that this is a process. We may be looking at a losing record again next year in the CAA. I hope not but it's possible. I think, however, that we will see continued progress as we move forward, just as we have so far this year.

watched better part of the second half as TV viewing area initially did not have it listed I like the road uni's always prefer the gold pants and showed a better perspective Did We have any type of following at W&M? I think We miss the injured TE Pearsall maybe He can split out and be a taller threat Sowell back at OT one armed showed me some guts but when We get a 100+ yd rush effort Our offense will look much better. I am hoping to be @ Maine game

The problem with Elon is personnel. The team currently has 3 really good players on offense that could play at the FBS level of college football.
1) Karl Bostick - Has already played at the FBS level 2) Tracey Coppedge - He has natural vision and quickness. His numbers would be great behind a more competitive offensive line. 3) Kierre Brown - Possibly the best all purpose player to ever play at Elon. He is actually the best receiver and running back on the team. *Honorable mention - Doug Warrick - He has the size and talent but doesn't display the heart at times.
The defense has currently has 4 players that could play at the FBS level.
1) Blair - Was already at Ball state. Head hunter mentality. Athletic 2) Spain - He tackles everything! Smart and tough. 3) Benton – A smart play maker. 4) Silas - A combination of Spain and Benton in one package. He will be great by his senior year.
The good news is that the team has about 10 other players that are good enough to play at the FCS level. The bad news is that the remaining portion of the team is either under developed or should be playing at the D1 or D2 level. This may upset some fans but it is the honest truth. The new coaching staff has already pulled kids in the office and asked them not to come back next season. It appears that they are very serious about changing the culture and getting better players.

I agree with pretty much everything you said SM. Although Coppedge needs at least 20 more pounds to be really effective. He's ok if there's a seam, but he's too light to make his own yardage. Warrick is one of the few players that was better last year. He has dropped some critical passes this year that were on the money. Silas will be all conference next year & should be this year. I also feel that there are several players on the roster that can develop into FBS level players if they work properly.
