It's was cold and wet. Pretty miserable. Perfect preparation for November's game in Maine. Did I mention it was cold?
There really weren't enough players to do this right. The OL played for both teams, two top receivers were out. Next year, with this huge incoming class (including walkons) will make a massive difference.
Secondary. These guys will be tough. The love to lay the wood down and proved that in the game. And their coverage was impressive thought the game, but remember two top receivers were sidelined.
Linebackers. Pretty active. A lot of youth in there so plenty of growth to be seen, but they show signs of being very solid.
D line. Got a lot of sacks (although the two-hand-touch rule with QBs inflates that number a bit). Still, they had plenty of get up and go.
O line. Big. Still not cohesive, but when they get it right, it looks wonderful. Quite a few errant snaps, understandable in the weather conditions but still not acceptable. Also a few too many holding calls. Both offenses nuts themselves in the foot with penalties.
TE. I'm predicting this will be the biggest surprise of the offense. They are big and quick and showed they can hang on to the ball. Expect to see great numbers from these guys this season. And Pearsall did t play...
WR. A depleted bunch. When they are all healthy and on the field, watch out. Still had a couple too many drops.
RB. It was a struggle. Maybe it was a problem with blocking but this seemed to be the biggest challenge for the offense.
QB. I think it's safe to say Elon has two very good young QBs. Pretty crappy throwing conditions but both had a few beautiful passes. Christiansen can run. Smooth and quick. I was surprised by the number of deep passes in the game. But that's a good sign. These two guys will push each other.
Just my 2 cents.
