It will be interesting to see if the freshmen can provide the help needed. Thanks for posting.

I would really like to get a live look at a practice this coming week, for recruits this a great opportunity for new guys getting playing time at least to develop and to build depth. there ideally should not have a drop-off in the first two deep. record aside We have to be able to put a quality= winning product on the field and hold our own on both sides of the line of scrimmage. we are bringing in too much talent now so We need to get some better results for sure. But they will not do it unless people get behind them and give them vital support. wish'n & a hopin'

Freshman Summers becomes factor in Elon preseason emailprintCOMMENT 1

ELON — Malcolm Summers is creating an impact that could be felt beyond Elon football practices this season. The true freshman running back out of Eastern Alamance seems ready to become an immediate contributor, even at one of the Phoenix’s most experienced positions. “He’s definitely a factor,” coach Rich Skrosky said. Summers helped fuel an improved ground game in Elon’s first scrimmage of the preseason Friday night. He rushed 14 times for 74 yards, totals that led the team. Twenty of his yards came on two carries that set up a field goal. B.J. Bennett, a junior who’s the likely starter, added 61 yards on 13 carries, prompting Skrosky to call the production “a huge improvement.” Skrosky said Elon’s rushing attack graded out at an efficiency rating of about 60 percent for the scrimmage. The Phoenix measures efficient runs as gains of 4 yards or more. Elon conducts its second scrimmage Tuesday night. Summers, potentially a load at 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, appears to be among the group of new arrivals that Skrosky has said must “play like they’re not freshmen” this season, which opens Sept. 3 at Wake Forest. “I think he still has waves of improvement to make,” Skrosky said of Summers. “Like all freshmen I think he’s still a little unsure, particularly in the pass game, in protections and where to fit into a route concept. “Running is what he does. That’s what he’s done naturally. He runs hard. He’s got great foot turnover. He’s kind of slippery for a bigger guy.”

Barring something unexpected, Summers will be our starter within 4 games. He is the only RB that gives 100% during the practices I've seen. He has good balance, speed and size. If he keeps his health and work ethic, he may be the next star to come out of Elon. He was a very solid pick-up.

the back story in this is the development of an OL that is running against a stout DL hopefully, it is encouraging no doubt there has to be blocking for any back to succeed. and to keep a passing game flowing to balance the offense. We shall see, plan to be at practice tomorrow

Are there any reports on another new RB, Nick Theos?

Didn't he have a bad ankle injury in spring season?
