Love the comparison to the 2009 team that went 9-3 and had Riddle, Hudgins and a great group of players. UTC Riddle (13-18 for 196 and 3 TD’s), Hudgins 3TD’s and Elon ran for 179 yards rushing. GEORGIA SOUTHERN Riddle tossing it around, and Hudgins caught 12 balls for 138 and a TD. CITADEL Riddle (220 yds and 2TD’s), Hudgins and Mellette catching passes and Elon ran for 267 yards.

Yeah, I know, I know. But my point is that no one said "it's raining, so we have to stop passing". Heck we have a hard time running when it's bone dry. It's going to be harder for us to run in the rain than it will be to pass in the rain. A lot of this game will be on the D I guess.

Brain fade. I was thinking about Belushi's Donsld Duck rant in 1941. Happy to be corrected.

Too bad we're looking at wet weather for Saturday, but I understand the field at Rhodes is a really good Bermuda system. Not calling for much wind, so weather will probably impact us fans more than the game. Correct, same system that the Carolina panthers use. Back in my college days we played Wake Forest in soccer on the field during a monsoon. Field remain in great condition despite the amount of rain per hour

Yep. It was Blutarsky right after double secret probation and before the toga party.

Regarding walk-on players.. You have hit one of Elon's hurdles. Although we have many walk-on players, over the years it is a place we struggle to find impact players. It is mainly due to our price tag. A kid can walk on a state school much cheaper than Elon. I have spoken to each of our last three HC about this. It is a huge struggle for the staff.

We have had plenty of walk-on players make an impact. Rob Sullivan has started two years and is playing really well. Nick Groll is getting a lot of pt as is Brandon Gentry. Clay Johnson and Tony Thompson from a couple years back were also walk-ons that ended up starting.

Let's see. Five or six guys over a 10-yr span? Not that good. The guys you mentioned have been nice surprises.
However when you add it up 10-15 walk ons per year over that span is not efficient.

walk ons the last couple of years have helped numbers and scout team and practice players that know that role and develop possibly are essential. they may have been good high schoolers and 2 years on a D-1 squad looks great on a resume'. We treat them as a whole part of the Squad too! we have 10-15 guys paying their way thats huge. Transfers from FBS power 5 schools that's what We need that kind of talent.

All of those players were from the last four years not ten. I think it's realistic to think that one or two walk ons from each class end up getting significant playing time.
