Friday we start a 4 game stand against Wright State. They plated in the opening round of last years tournament beating Ohio (Miami) and Notre Dame and lost to Illinois and ND. With 43 wins last season and only allowing 4.3 runs there no team to look over. Here's hoping for at least a 50/50 start to the season. I'm hoping to get a good look at the team Saturday if my 5 month old son will let me.

Wright State was also picked as the favorite for the Horizon League this year. Looks like they have the preseason player of the year on their roster as well 3 other preseason conference players of the year. I know Horizon League isn't great, but they seem like a good team.

I'll be there this afternoon for game 1. Thanks for the info on Wright State, EFF and bhill. Seems like it will be a good test for the young Phoenix team.

I was at the game 1 on sat, wouldn't put the entire game on the pin. Sure the hit batters are on them, but their batters just put the ball in play in the correct places. Friday was just a 1 inning implosion. Not the start we wanted but its only the first series dont write the season off yet

What a brutal way to open the season.
We used 15 different pitchers. Made 9 errors and have a 8.27 ERA. What the....
We walked 30 hitters in four games. You can't win anything that way.

9 errors? WTH? Sounds like middle school ball. Can't hit & can't field, bad combination.

That was about the worst start they could have. The pitching was a disaster aside from a couple of guys. 43 runs given up off 40 hits and 22 walks for the weekend. Also gave up 13 runs in the first inning alone.
They had a couple opportunities to win the early game on Saturday and an error that would have gotten them out of the inning led to two more runs and then squandered bases loaded with one out in the 8th or 9th...can't recall.
Feeling a lot less optimistic about the season. If they can't take at least 2 of 3 from LaSalle next weekend things could get really bad.

I was under the assumption pitching was supposed to be strong this season.
Brutal start. Not optimistic at all about the year.
