Good morning all...been following along and watched as barbs sent back and forth and really love the interest in the program, but agree with the administrator, the struggles of this team in year three are the issue so hopefully spirited discussion can be had without the attacks. We had similar and much of the same discussion last year throughout and that is where my issue comes with. Lets understand the truths, this is full year three of Skrosky's tenure. He was brought here from Ball St supposedly due to his past history with Elon and his OC acumen. Well, what is the theme that has played over and over and over these past three years? Our offense has been totally ineffective for most of his time here (i would say the entire time, but others will nit pick a game here or there, but bottom line, he WAS/IS an OC and cannot generate regular offense or scoring). I do not miss the days of Swepson as he was as boorish as any coach I have seen without any track record to be - and thus why he probably hasnt found another job! BUT, Swepson's staff (and I mean STAFF) did recruit a wider base of states (NOT just northeast country clubs as I read on one post) and his offense did put up points on a regular basis - we were not struggling to score which you need to do to win. Point in case, our defense last year was a pretty strong group, led by many kids recruited by that staff and mixed in with some very good ones from this staff and molded together. Offensively, where Skrosky has his hands, he went immediately to playing his own recruits rather than mixing in the older kids and we struggled and everyone told me to be patient. Well, year three has started off same as last year, EXCEPT it wasn't against an FBS team, it was against a team we were competitive with and won (albeit barely with our inept offense and due primarily to the defense playing great). We have the same issues, inconsistent QB play, dropped passes, and basically zero offense. You cannot win if you cannot score. And to hear someone say we need to play more freshmen, please. These are all Skrosky recruits now and if we have only 2 scholarship QB's on the roster who aren't Scott Riddell, but the offense we are running is for this level of QB play, whose fault is that? Skrosky has had three classes to recruit THAT type of QB and has failed. Maybe his desire to win NC recruiting is the issue? Whatever it is, if you cannot get that type of QB, then its the coaches fault for not developing the offense around the kids you have! Please, this is totally a staff issue - top to bottom. But bottom line, if you are into year three, removed playing the likes of ACC teams etc, but still cannot score points, it falls totally on the coaching. There is talent on this team, but if you dont use it to the TEAM's strengths, then you are where we are. I have watched practices and now game one, and what I see is a regular occurring pattern of the same from the past two years. I see a staff that cannot adapt, cannot develop an offense that suits their own recruits and cannot call plays on game day. It is as generic as it comes and all us arm chair QB's can be defensive coordinators as we know what Elon is doing. There never seems to be a new package for the next team, where is the game planning? Please, we dumbed down the schedule this year and we lost to a team we were competitive with last year. The same issues are lining up again and we have new comments saying play the younger guys! If you have time, go back and read posts from last season and we are all saying the same things over and over. This is a staff issue plain and simple and its time for Elon's sake that we think about spending some money and bringing in a coach who can C-O-A-C-H. In the meantime, until I see a different formation or a concentrated effort to develop our offense around one or two players in the short term to find success, I will continue to believe that this was no better a hire than Swepson and we need to finally embrace that it has failed and for the love of ELON, need to spend some money to bring in a qualified Head Coach that has shown success previously as a HC to bring us in line with the other CAA members and bring us to where we belong as the #1 rated school in the south. This is not cutting it folks, same old discussions....broken record.

Couple things... * Most of you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the staff. They are good but somehow it did not show on Sat. They care. Trust me on that. * This loss stings because it's a program that we should beat. We were dominated in the second half. Plain and simple. * We all should expect progress in year three. On Sat. we did not see any. Which makes it tough. * One of my concerns is at what level the administration, outside of the athletic department, really cares. Leo seems more concerned about social justice issues then the performance of our football team. There is a balance, I know. * We have recruited two scholarship QB's in three classes. That's a big problem. * If the offense does not improve this year, Rich needs to hire a full-time OC and change the offense. We need to run at a better tempo. If we don't have the athletes, we need to win with scheme. Something we are not doing. ^^^^ I especially agree with the 2nd sentence of the last point. We are eating up the clock on ourselves. Winning the possession time battle only works if 1- you can score and 2- you can at least keep the other team from quick strike scoring. I'm certainly no coach, but I would run the two minute offense for the entire 1st quarter for the next couple of games. Play offensive smash mouth football. I know it's a risk but we need to show we can score & that seems to be the only way we are even able to move the ball. BTW, the best way to win the 3rd down conversion battle is to never have a 3rd down. JMHO.

FYI:
By Adam Smith Times-News @adam_smithTN
ELON — One game in and Elon’s No. 1 quarterback is down.
The Phoenix won’t have Connor Christiansen for at least Saturday night’s football game at Charlotte and perhaps considerably longer due to a shoulder injury suffered in last week’s season opener.
As a result, Daniel Thompson has taken on the first-team responsibilities, a status he’s familiar with after starting six games last season while rotating in a timeshare with Christiansen.
Coach Rich Skrosky said Elon is awaiting the verdict of an MRI taken Tuesday on the left shoulder of the left-handed Christiansen, with the labrum being of particular interest.
Skrosky suggested that surgery will be necessary at some point. Christiansen, the redshirt sophomore, had that shoulder repaired previously during his senior year of high school.
“I think it all depends on what the MRI says,” Skrosky said Tuesday. “We feel like, with a labrum, you can play with it, it’s just what’s the severity of it. At the end of the year you go in there and get it taken care of, so it really is going to depend on what the severity is for how long (of an absence) it will be.”
Christiansen looked on in a ball cap and maroon shorts while Elon practiced Tuesday.
Conor Hughes, a walk-on, is working as the backup Thompson.
Christiansen was knocked out of last week’s 31-6 loss to Gardner-Webb after Elon’s first possession of the second half, when the game’s outcome still remained in doubt with the Phoenix trailing 10-3.
Skrosky said the pain Christiansen was experiencing Saturday had lessened by Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Skrosky said “we won’t skip a beat” in reference to Elon’s preparation with the sophomore Thompson as its first-stringer.
He said Thompson displayed a level of confidence on most of his throws against Gardner-Webb. Thompson replaced Christiansen for Elon’s final four possessions and went 10 of 16 for 104 yards with an interception.
“He was pretty comfortable,” Skrosky said of Thompson. “It was not an easy decision when we went with Connor (as the starter), because I think Daniel has markedly improved. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles it now, because it’s a different dynamic.”
Thompson said Tuesday that he’s praying for Christiansen, who he calls a good friend, to heal quickly.
Thompson said before Christiansen’s injury he tried to maintain an ever-ready mindset, something long instilled by his family and older brother Dylan Thompson, a former quarterback at South Carolina and in the NFL.
“I approached last week as if I was the starter,” Daniel Thompson said. “That’s something my brother has always told me, my parents have always told me, ‘If you’re a backup, if you’re fifth string, you prepare like you’re a starter.’ You’ve got to be ready, because you never know what’s going to happen.”
Kickoff
Who: Elon (0-1) at Charlotte (0-1)
When: 6 p.m. Saturday
Where: Richardson Stadium, Charlotte
Series: Elon leads 1-0

In terms of spending money, Skrosky is making nearly $300,000. That's not the issue.

Was pretty frustrated watching last week's game on TV - knew the defense might struggle, but had much higher expectations for the offense, and to not score a single touchdown in your home opener against a big south opponent who finished at the bottom of their league last year is scary...I'm holding out hope that the team just played poorly last week and will salvage the season and show some offensive mojo, but agree with sentiments above, this is getting old quick! For those interested, I've got a preview and prediction for the Charlotte game on the blog: bit.ly/2c9mXvh

CC IS FINE. SAW HIM @ SMITHFILEDS AFTER THE GAME WITH HIS FAMILY. EGO MAY BE BRUISED BUT HIS SHOULDER IS FINE. NO SLING, NO ICE, NOTHING. NTOHING ON THE SIDELINE AS WELL. WE DONT HAVE A QB THAT CAN THROW DOWN FIELD AND DID NOT RECRUIT A QB IN THE '16 CLASS. BRILLIANT MOVE! RUNNING GAME LOOKED GOOD BUT WE GOT AWAY FROM IT. OL PLAYED WELL AND PROVIDED SOLID PROTECTION. DEFENSE WAS BEYOND AWFUL. NOT LIKE IT WAS A SURPRISE THAT GW's QB WOULD RUN ALL DAY. MOST DISTURBING PART IS THE LACK OF DISCIPLINE AND LACK OF CONDTIONING. THE TEAM ONCE AGAIN WAS NOT READY TO PLAY. THAT IS ON SKROSKY AND HIS STAFF. First of all dude, you know absolutely nothing. You ice on and off for 15 minutes when you have an injury. He did have ice under his shoulder pads on the sidelines in the 3rd quarter and I guarantee you he got worked on after the game and met with doctors. You don't keep ice on your shoulder 24/7 when you are injured. EDUCATE YOURSELF. The kid sees his family 4 times a year, let him enjoy that rare time. Guarantee you he was upset about the loss. Do you want him to leave his family and just stay alone in his room all night? No. Think logistically here. You don't know him. He tried to stay in the game and clearly couldn't throw after he got hurt and took himself out. Have a little respect and understanding regardless of what you think about him as a player. Dude, you don't expect to see someone with a serious should injury in a restaurant less the 45 minutes after a game hanging out. Thanks for wiki medical report though it may come in handy for the season. Be sure to check out WebMD as well. Hopefully CC bounces back quickly. With one scholarship QB, we are basically screwed. staurday will tell us a lot about this team's heart and soul. Anyone know how long Skrosky's contract is? If it's 5, he would be due an extension this year or early next.... Will he get it?

Here We Go Again - If you are going to call into question the toughness and integrity of one of the players, would you mind at least registering for an account on the forum.
As for the team, we all hoped that Skrosky would pick a QB and stick with him. Appears that he may have no choice with CC out. Hope Daniel can get things moving and I am sure that not subbing in and out will help.
Saturday was bad, but not the end of the world. Lets wait for a pattern of a few games before writing this team off.

One of those moments that just make you pause & think what is really wrong. Good news is we will find out very quickly what this team is made of. After Fayetteville (who we not better take lightly) the next several weeks are brutal. The problem with Saturday was we avoided playing an ACC team not to get throttled and we still get throttled. Was it worth giving up the big payday?

When reports say he is hurt and you reply, in all caps might I add, "CC IS FINE. SAW HIM @ SMITHFILEDS AFTER THE GAME WITH HIS FAMILY. EGO MAY BE BRUISED BUT HIS SHOULDER IS FINE." Thats not a question, thats stating a clear claim.
As for the team again, I truly wonder how that game progresses if CC doesnt leave the game. Garner Webb's offense didnt exactly come out red hot, but accelerated as the game went on. I wonder if ours would have picked up some too. Offensive drives could have given defense some relief as well. Maybe not enough to win, but 24-16 loss would have looked quite a bit different.

24-16? Really? DT didn't play all that bad.
And yes now knowing CC is out for the season I question even more why he was out 45 minutes after the game!!! makes no sense. And when I say I question, I question the medical staff not CC!!! Cmon guys, you don't do that. Very strange. I have been around the game a long time and that doesn't happen.
