Horrible ending to the year.
Our flaws got us again.
* One basket in the final six minutes.
* Two total points from our seniors.
Ugh.

First congrats to the ladies. We've generally ignored them and they were stellar this year.
The guys, hate to see the season end that way, but we put together a good season. Sure there were and are problems, but another year of maturity and some recruits will be big. We can now see losing Eddy and Hairston won't be the blows they thought the would be.

Enough with the free pass.
We have issues. Simple as that. This far into a tenure we should expect more.

We do have issues agreed. I do think we could be a little better next year with the extra year for the starting 5 and the subtraction of Eddy, who killed us for 2 years at the end of games. The bad part is I don't think we have any good recruits behind them and the usual issues need to be cleaned up to take the next step forward. Overall, this year was better than I expected but too many winnable games like yesterday were left on the table by the staff
I read an article that referenced that Elon would not pursue a CBI or CIT bid. Does anyone know why that is? I know in 2013 there was a CIT bid accepted so what has changed?

CBI and CIT actually cost money to play in.
We are not in a position to pay. It was $50k to enter the CBI at last check.

I am not debating, more curiosity. Why were we in position to pay 4 years ago but not now? Or in hindsight, did opinions change and people now think we shouldn't have paid then?

One more question...why are we not in position to pay that money if there are 48 other teams that are between CIT and CBI? Again, if anyone knows or thinks they do, that wouuld be helpful to know

I think its because of the perception of the CIT CBI. They are not an invitation tourney but a pay to play. It brings no recognition and are not highly though of. Yes we would play more games but its not worth the cost

I think that is debatable. A team with lots of young players gaining tourney experience has some positive benefits. Lots of other schools at least believe in the investment so it is at least debatable

A lot of schools have more money to spend. Elon is not in a position to be shelling out $50k to play in a third or fourth tier tournament.

Makes sense. Did we have more cash in 2013 or just regret the expense in hindight?

I watched every game for the past seven years just not home games except two when I confused tip-off start times. Eddy made things interesting solid free throws down the stretch and he was the ultimate competitor you got nothing easy on the offense. Eddy will be missed a great deal. He was our only on ball defender, we have period; in the entire program. Swoope nice off ball but can't guard the ball not even a good girl player, Thompson is athletic and solid rebounder but can't defend misses numerous defensive assignments, Santa Anna just wants to shoot, and Sheldon is a zone player limited defensively. I am admittedly a Matheny fan. I have complained about the lack of posts since Troutman but Sebring and Dawkins showed promise offensively none defensively. We have absolutely no rim protectors. It may be Eddy was our best rim protector drawing charges and switching on bigs from high ball screens. Eddy was not in the William Mary game late after score was 62 all. I promise if Coach Matheny leaves him in the game it is a one possession game the last 20 seconds. Instead it was 71-62 our last possession. I don't promise a win but our Elon cheering section and fans would have been on their feet wishing for a bucket for a chance to win not watching Tribe fans celebration the final 30 seconds of the game.

Eddy has always been a "ball hog". He wants the ball at the end of the game, then either throws it away or dribbles out the shop clock. He was constantly beaten on defense more than a rented mule. Tommy Boy, I don't know which games you were watching, but they certainly were not the ones I watched and I saw all of the games on the computer and attended two in person. I live 4 and a half hours away. I do not question his competitiveness, but he was a better decision maker his first year than he was his last three years.
