I don't think anyone gives us a realistic chance of winning this game, but it seems to me that our goals for this game should be to compete for 4 quarters, to find the offensive and defensive identities of this team, and to stay healthy. Thoughts?

We have to compete, I mean play hard and don't let this team of Toledo Rockets really take off.

I say 59-17 to 59-24. Toledo will let 2nd team get reps in second half. This is a great game to get a baseline. We will beat Furman in Week 2. We will drive out of Greenville 1-1 heading home.

It seems injuries are starting to pile up for us. Hopefully the the 10 day break after Toledo will help some of these guys heal enough to contribute.

I just hope we dont get banged up in this game. While its a good pay day we always seem to walk away with a major injury

Yeah, I don't think this one will be close. Toledo has a pretty explosive offense, and returns a QB that can straight up wing it.
Hate to say it, but I think FC4life's prediction is pretty accurate.

I think our goal for this game should be to execute to the best of our ability, especially on O. If we can reasonably execute, I feel our team can come away feeling good regardless of the score. Having said that, their O will pretty much have a field day against our very young D line and D backfield. I agree they will likely score in the 50's. I hope our new O will be able to score at least two TD's.

I would say 45-10. If this was a conference game for Toledo they would want/try to put up 50+ on us.

The new Spark video is really good stuff. It was interesting that when I went to Youtube, the first video that played was the Compelled video from last year. It's the one that starts with Dave Harrison talking to the team. The interesting thing was that all the players truly felt that the 2016 season was going to be a breakout season. The results spoke for themselves. It's anyone's best guess as to why the team faltered so badly. I wonder, did it have to do with CC going down in the first game, play calling, inability to handle adversity, lack of discipline or bad recruiting? I think the death of their teammate affected the team more than we realized. Right or wrong, that may have caused an unbridgeable chasm between the team and the coaching staff.
Regardless of the reason(s) for last season's performance, I think the current coaching staff has the elements the team needs to begin a sustainable turnaround. I personally think the team has more ability than they've shown over the past two seasons. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised at our team's competitiveness this season. I feel we've got more talent and ability, by far, than they showed last year. This turnaround won't happen overnight. We will have at least four starters who've never played a snap of college football. So the first game might be ugly, but I still think we'll be better than last year, even in the first game. I also think that by mid season, we'll be a mid level CAA team, unfortunately we will have taken a few lumps in the early going of the conference slate.
I considered Skrosky a friend, but I'm glad he's gone. He'll do better as a coordinator. He just wasn't what Elon needed in a head coach.
Welcome to the Cignetti era!

However, we've been putting out good stuff the past few years. Guess what? It has been all show. We've been awful. Hopefully they build on this. We've been "rebuilding" for the last six season. Pretty sad.
