Matheny is a good coach. Matheny isn’t a good recruiter. If you take a good hard look at this roster, we stink.

I’m interested is why you think he’s a good coach. Please tell.
He’s under .500 in his ninth season and isn’t he responsible for the talent that he chooses to bring in?

He has little actual talent for a D1 roster. He does a heck of a coaching job for the players he has, but he is resonspible for those players. So irrelevant argument..
Any possibility Elon brings in grad transfers?

I think the point is that overall, he is neither a good coach nor a good recruiter, not an ideal combination. He recruits below 500 talent and he coaches them to a below 500 record. That is on the whole. A very strong argument can be made that this year's team had above 500 talent (at least I think so) and he has ruined the season. 5 straight losses by a combined 101 points. Unreal

The most frustrating issue IMHO - two highly experienced teams with all/most starters returning, over the course of the last 3-4 years - have played worse than the previous year. That, I can't understand.

No depth, no fight, bad x's and o's, lose by 22 on Senior night. Doesnt seem like anyone of the team cares, worse yet it doesnt seem like Matt cares. New gym needs new blood.

If we lose tonight, we will finish last in the conference and there will be no excuse not move on from Matheny.

God help up us all if this decision hinges on finishing in a 3 way tie and losing a tie-breaker vs separating ourselves from the mighty Blue Hens, Dragons and Dukes by a game.

Anyone know what the plan is for Alumni Gym? Will it be torn down?

Anyone know what the plan is for Alumni Gym? Will it be torn down? From what I've heard it's not going anywhere. Supposed to be used for other stuff on campus and I would imagine it would be a good fallback option if there was ever a scheduling conflict with the Schar Center. Go Phoenix!

I know everyone wants to over react and wants change, but the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Look at the football program and how much money they spent and how many coaches they went through. I do not want the basketball program to go through that. Matt is a great coach. He was not prepared as he should have been for the change to the CAA but he will get better. Also you will lose a huge fanbase and support system if you bring in a new coach. The players under Matheny are very good at supporting the program and if Matt is gone they will not follow the program as much. It will be hard with a new arena and not having the support of previous players. Keep believing in Matheny and what he has done. Look at last year as they exceeded expectations by far. Good luck to the team in the conference tournament, anything can happen!

The alumni gym will be converted into a safe space for EU basketball fans to gather and discuss our impressive student athlete graduation rates under coach Matheny.
