I think one guy getting overlooked in all this is Tim Craft. Has had several successful seasons at Gardner-Webb, took them to the NCAA Tournament for the first time today. He would probably make 3 times at Elon what he makes at GWU, I'd be surprised if he wasn't at least looked at for the job.

Personally, I think Tim Craft should of been one of if not the top target.
I am just not sure he would of taken it but if Elon targeted Mike Jones of Radford (also in the Big South) that Craft just beat in the finals....then he probably isn't jumping for joy being the #2 or heck...probably #3 or #4 man on Elon's wish list.
Craft was making 97K at ECU as assistant back in 2013. He has won on a regular basis (just never a title) at Gardner Webb for 5 seasons before this year.
Only one losing season and never below .500 in conference play. Just a very solid, consistent program.
Longwood is a similarly rated job in the Big South, coach at Longwood makes $150k a year. I would imagine Craft is at or above that considering his tenue compared to the Longwood coach.
Obviously going to get a raise after the title this year. I would think Elon would need to offer $400 or more to get his attention, especially after being overlooked.
Mike Jones has had a good tenure at Radford and just got bumped up to $300k per year. I would guess GWU would be willing to pay him somewhere in that $250k range with big extension if needed.
Might could of got the job done with Craft if we made him #1 but I think he is willing to ride it out at Gardner Webb once he gets his contract extended until a bigger/better job comes along.
He is losing two really good seniors, but he landed a freshman guard that is a stud. Add in the recruiting bump from this tournament appearance, Craft is setting pretty good at Gardner Webb to stay relevant for the next few years and land a better job than Elon.
Unless he just wants a new challenge and a small pay bump (if Elon was willing to really go to like $400k a year ballpark) then I would imagine he stays....sadly.
If Elon made him #1 from the start and put in a strong offer, then it might would of been enough.

I pulled up Gardner Webb's tax disclosure forms out of curiosity. Typically the basketball coach at a Div. I school is among a university's highest paid employees and therefore their compensation will show up on the form. Pulled two years worth and was really surprised that Craft wasn't on there. The lowest paid employee on the list was making $145,000.

It might be done. But in typical Elon fashion, I have no doubt it is being delayed because the school would hate to have anything take away from all of the hoopla around the launch of the new Elon Leads campaign.

You'd think the announcement would compliment the Elon Leads hoopla. Give me a reason to be excited.

Was reported on coaching changes.com. However the report was quickly disputed by another source who brought up Mike Schrange and blank wanting a younger guy.

If it is Schrange then why isn't it done yet? I would be totally on board with this hire. Doherty seems pretty far out there and it would be surprising that Blank would want to take on that baggage. It would get Elon on ESPN for a solid 24 hours. There is a thread on a premier UNC discussion board about Doherty to Elon. Can anyone see it?

I'd be shocked if Matt Doherty took this job. For the past couple seasons he's been the Atlantic 10 Conference's associate commissioner for men's basketball. I met him at last year's tournament in DC and he's a super nice guy but his coaching record is below average. At age 57 I can't see him coming to Elon.

Reports on twitter about Doughtery are conflicting. Who knows what the heck is going on.

Just an FYI... Matt Doherty is the speaker at a youth club in Graham April 30th.
