I'm surprised there's no commentary on yesterday's game! I thought this game was the most solid game we've played this year. I'm very happy with most every aspect of this game. The game plan was perfect. It didn't hurt that our zone defense was a perfect match for Monmouth's inability to shoot 3's. We shot nearly 50% FG and 33% from beyond the arc which was solid. The 3 point percentage might have been better if you-know-who wasn't constantly pulling the early 3 point trigger rather than looking for an assist. Even he played a strong game and shot very well from inside the arc. So, kudos there. I also thought Pratt showed continued growth both in skill and confidence. Watson played well & nailed 4 of his 8 3 point attempts. Max didn't have his usual game, but he pulled down 10 rebounds. Bowen had solid productive minutes. The thing I observed which made me the happiest is Sherry is developing a nice nasty little edge to his game. He dunked one through a pretty aggressive foul & came up with a sly FU grin on his face. If he can gain some mass over the off season, he will be a force with which to be reckoned next season.
I'm really starting to respect Taylor & his staff. The start of the season was rough, but Taylor was handed some crappy circumstances. Now, the coaching is shining through. We'll be losing some talent this year with Halloran, Watson, Ervin, Butler and Junkin moving on, but the recruiting looks pretty good so far. With the team mix changing so much, I think the beginning of next year will also be rocky. However, with the staff having a year under their belt and the returning players having significantly more familiarity with the system, I expect we will at least be in the middle of the pack by the end of the 23-24 season. Hell we may be this year before it's all said and done.
