Really tough way to the end an already disappointing season. The boys played hard this year; although the effort was there the talent simply wasn’t. Taylor is really going to have to improve the overall athleticism (mostly through the portal) if we are to expect a winning season next year. Go Phoenix!

Deandre, Sam, Max, Zac have to be leaders and really get to the grind for this team to be competitive next year.

Absolutely a horrible coaching job but at least we don’t have to see Halloran again.

I know that I post some very negative comments on here and I apologize for that. It is just my feelings and the way I see the whole Elon athletic debacle. What I am truly upset about is the widespread apathy displayed by the lack of concern by supporters, alumni, and others shown by the lack of discussion on the topic of Elon athletics and more specifically basketball in general, men and women. I am discusted with the state of basketball in general at Elon given that the expectations were high with the opening of Scharr Center. Mistake number one was getting rid of Matt Metheny. Mistake number two was not getting rid of Dave Blank. Now it looks like the discord for athletics by the administration is having a profound effect on Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball and others. Now, let me hear some agreement or rebuttal from some of you “other” fans. Just try enthusiasm instead of apathy.

Taylor and his staff made the most out of this and need to have a productive year two. However, your constant negativity about everything is exhausting. No one is happy with a 9 win season but to ignore EVERYTHING that has happened in the last 10 months is shortsighted and shows your lack of attentiveness to the Elon program. and letting go of Matheny was a mistake? The man had three winning seasons out of ten. THREE. Additionally, he had nine wins in first season as well and I can promise you that it was not as chaotic as this. So spare me.

You must have such a short memory or none at all, Fear. You cannot in good faith be bestowing blessings on this staff (except Greg and Billy) and what I would have done is of no consequence because I am not being paid to “coach” basketball, but I am a fan and supporter and as such, I am entitled to my opinion, which is what I am expressing. Now with that being said , if you would rather not know what others’ opinions and thoughts are, then you should stop reading mine and express your own. You are also entitled to your opinions. Let’s stop the petty stuff and keep pulling for the Phoenix, which is what I have done for the last 63 years. I am just very, very discusted. You are spared!

Billy really starts his tenure this next season and that begins now with 1) keeping Max, Sam, Deandre and the core group of young guys that have been there this year and 2) getting a couple hits in the portal. If we don’t do both of those things I think another 10 win season, with 5 or 6 in the CAA could be in the cards. If we do both we could definitely win 15 or so and finish top half of the CAA. Obviously as a fan I want more for our guys but that would be a great year 2 for Taylor.

Letting Matheny go was the right thing to do. Letting him go then hiring Schrage was devastating. Hindsight is 20/20, but one could argue that a seasoned director should have known better than to hire Schrage. One could also argue that Matt deserved another year. Regardless, Matt was not the future of Elon basketball and thank goodness Schrage quit. He obviously wasn't the future of Elon Basketball. I also wasn't a fan of the Taylor hire. However, I liked what I saw toward the end of the season. The overwhelming deficit Taylor had this season was the inability to consistently put the ball in the basket. I do feel Billy did a respectable job given the situation. I also feel that if the talent gap is closed a bit for next season, we can be a mid to top half CAA team BECAUSE of Taylor's coaching. Schrage only won 10 games last year and that was WITH Macintosh, Burford Graham & Woods. Looking back, Schrage simply "escaped" Elon, knowing those guys were entering the portal.
P23, I agree with your post. 23-24 is when Billy really starts his tenure.

Everelon, I'm glad you're here. I don't always agree with you, sometimes I do. You are nothing if not consistent with your views. Opposing views are what make a forum good. If everyone is always in agreement the board gets boring & dies. The only thing I would encourage all board members to NOT do is "beat up" individual players too much. I know I'm guilty of this too. Just try to remember they are 18-24 year old kids that are trying to do the best they can. Calling them out is one thing, but malicious attacks shouldn't be a part of this board, IMO.
