Trap game? I hope not! They’re ranked 11th in FCS. Are they as good as advertised? Hard to say. Offensively it looks like they could be. The only measure is their game vs Campbell, which looks pretty similar to us. Looks like it will all come down to which defense plays better. Massey says their offense is better - 40th vs our 48th, but says our defense is much better - 11th vs their 98th. Massey picks us 83%. I say the match up favors NCCU, especially if our offense doesn’t come to play. I’m predicting a win for us, but closer than Massey expects. I think they’ll come to play & the game will come down to the final minutes for the third week in a row.

I share all your concerns. I do believe we can beat NCCU, primarily because of the strength of our defense. If our o-line performs and our running game clicks, we can keep NCCU's offense off the field and improve our chances for a victory. Turnovers and lack of discipline (false starts, taunting, etc.) could sink us. We need more Downing to Brayboy strikes.
Go, Phoenix!

We were thoroughly defeated in all three phases. I hope Downing's injury is not severe and that he'll be able to come back next week and finish out conference play.
Go, Phoenix!

Sorry to say, but I called it. The real risk of this game was always injury, not the loss itself. I know I’m a broken record, but terrible scheduling.

I’m not gonna rip scheduling because I don’t know what goes into it and a few CAA teams played OOC games today, but what a terrible showing in a lot of ways. Tailgating was horrible and empty, complete open sections of bleachers, zero energy in the stadium at all, offense went flat after ten points, defense was a complete disappointment in all phases, and special teams (kicking) was subpar. After three solid weeks, it’s rough to see this team completely fall flat. But I’m also disappointed in the atmosphere as it seemed borderline embarrassing. Strawley is still taking everything in, but she has a hell of a job ahead of her of trying to create a supportive athletic culture here at Elon.
Team wise, Jaylen was a ghost of himself today, the offensive line got manhandled all game long, our young LB’s played like it for the first time, DL were glued to blocks, DB’s gave too much cushion. Just a missed opportunity but still a lot to play for.
I will also say NCCU played well and would make some noise in the FCS playoffs, if they weren’t locked in to the Celebration Bowl.
On to Villanova.
