The Phoenix will be playing for pride and a winning season tomorrow. By all appearances, we should win this one; however, in the CAA and with Elon, you just never know.
Overall records are the same, 5-5. The Pirates will be hungry for a winning season and a break-even CAA record. If we lose to Hampton, we'll still have a better conference record than theirs, but that will be bitter consolation in a losing season.
Common opponents: Hampton beat Richmond handily, but that was pre-Wickersham; Richmond beat us handily, with a great performance from Wickersham. Campbell beat Hampton by 3; we beat Campbell by 4. Monmouth trounced Hampton; we eked out a 2-point win over the Hawks (they failed on two PAT attempts). Delaware beat Hampton by 44; we had our best game against Delaware. Hampton beat A&T by 2; we, surprisingly to me at the time, had no problem with the Aggies. W&M beat Hampton by three touchdowns; we played a strong defensive game, and Downing had a good passing day, against the Tribe.
Unfortunately, this game was not even discussed by Flo in its weekly prediction column. I'm going to say Elon 35, Hampton 21.
As for CAA playoff participation, I expect Delaware and Albany to win on Saturday and make the playoffs. I think W&M will beat Richmond and spoil the Spiders' chance for the playoffs.
