This loss feels like a gut-punch.

During OOC this team played loose, like they were actually having fun. In CAA play, they look like they're taking the bar exam. Every possession looks stiff, tight, like they're walking a tightrope, afraid of falling. Looks like a homework assignment rather than having fun in the playground. I don't know how better to describe it. Does anyone else notice this? Two of our best players had the most turnovers last night, Max-5, TK-4. That's 9 turnovers out of 15 by, arguably, 2 of our top 5 players. I have to be honest, I'm nervous every time Max dribbles the ball, fearful of a bad pass or steal. I LOVE both of those guys but I know they're better ball handlers than they were last night. The game last night was the most exciting game I can remember at Elon. Maybe except for the 3OT game vs UNCG a few years ago, (we won that one), or the game we won by coming back maybe 10 points in 18 seconds to win. Both of those were in Alumni. I just want to see us come out victorious in these close ones at home.

BTW, Max has the most turnovers on the team for the season at 43... but also has the most points at 271. TK has the 2nd most turnovers at 40, but has the 3rd most points at 221, (playing 3 games fewer than Max). So, if I'm Billy Taylor, gotta figure out how to "encourage" Max and TK to protect the ball better, because he sure as doodoo can't bench them.

I recall last year a lot of people were worried Max was going into the portal and possibly moving to a Power 5 School. Max is a really good CAA player but he has always been turnover prone. So bad he can be a liability at the end of close games. If you will look back at some of the Non-Conference games Max was not playing at the very end. Like I said he is a really good CAA player but there is no way he could play at the speed and physicality of a Power 5 school night after night. I love Max but it is what it is. TK is so aggressive at driving the lane he is expected to turnover the ball from time to time. I would like to see him take better care of the ball but that is really for all the players. THe Campbell game at Schar was horrible in terms of taking care of the ball. Silly turnovers, unforced turnovers which ultimately cost us the game. A couple of the really bad unforced ones happened in the last two minutes when we had the bale within 4 points.
