I have lost all patience with this team. We STINK. It is as simple as that. We cannot take care of the ball, too many turnovers, lack of free throw shooting, lack of consistent three point shooting, inability to play defense and a complete lack of willingness to play hard. I know we were down 20+ points toward end of the game but a shot goes up for Towson and 3 Elon plays surround the underneath of the basket and not a d**n one of them left there feet for the rebound. Of course Towson swoops in and takes it outs up a shot and misses and again not one Elon player left the floor and Towson gets another rebound who then pushes it out for a made 3. Towson up 20 and playing like they were down a basket trying to pull a game out. THey played hard the entire game. We look like we could absolutely care less. TK who had a great games minus his 4 turnovers but if you go back and watch the game on MANY occasions you can tell he is frustrated with his teammates for their lack of effort and bone head passes or plays. I still put a great deal of this on the coaching staff which I have lost all faith in. No enthusiasm at all so you wonder why the players lack it. I am so done with this team. To think I stayed up late watching that garbage they call a basketball game. I have nothing good to say about that game. We have three conference wins and two of those we tried to give away. We could easily be 1 - 12 right now. TOo much talent on this team to SUCK as bad as we do.

We actually aren’t that talented. That has been made clear most of the season. Our only conf wins are against teams who shouldn’t even BE in our conference. I will say this, the CAA is loaded. The top six all could win at least one game in the NCAA tournament. IMO, the CAA is one of the top 3 mid-major conferences in the country.

eu96, I'm very pro CAA and always want our conference to perform well in the tournament, but saying it's a top 3 mid major conference might be a bit too far as a whole. Our top 6 are definitely strong teams, but the conference still hasn't won a tourney game since 2012 with VCU as the member.
Anyways, Brian Mull, a recognized reporter who puts out occasional but important snippets for the CAA, tweeted out last night how Elon has fallen off significantly since late November. 'No identity' and 'if you're not Syracuse, 2-3 zone is the last stop before the defense glue factory' which I completely agree with. Putting out undersized guys in a zone is laughable and has been picked apart every game as we are clearly a bottom 10 defense in the country.
I know talk of a firing might be too early, but Trilly Donovan had in his hot seat article that at Elon he's "Received some intel suggesting a move could be made after only two seasons – which isn’t as uncommon as it used to be." (https://burnerball.com/february-coaching-carousel-breakdown/). So I wouldn't rule it out with a new AD who didn't hire him.

I put the CAA behind only the American and A10. I think we are level at worst with the WCC (down year for them) and clearly better than the The Valley (which has been gutted), the MAC, Sun Belt and the SoCon. Doesn’t leave much after the ones I have mentioned.

Also, I think there is no way Taylor gets fired after this year. He will get a third year, rightly or wrongly. A much more likely scenario is he leaves after this year for an asst. job.

However you want to cut it, as a whole the CAA has 5 teams sub 300 which is SWAC level atrocious, so I'll even give you just the best teams per Kenpom and give you a comparison. Gonzaga 19 (WCC) - which we can exclude cause they're not a mid major and I'll even keep out Saint Marys, so San Francisco 77 Indiana State 33 (MVC) JMU 61 (Sun Belt) Princeton 66 (Ivy) Louisiana Tech 71 (CUSA) Samford 72 (SoCon) UNCW 102 The commissioner has added 5 teams from America East, Big South, MEAC and MAAC the last 3 years which are way worse conferences. This isn't the conference it was 5 years ago.

I've tried to be less critical this year and I've said several times that all I wanted to see this year is improvement over last year. Well, we now sit at 3-9 in the conference. We were 6-12 last year. Here's what I see for the remainder of this regular season IF we get our heads out of our a$$es:
UD - L UNCW - L Northeastern - W* Hofstra - L W&M - W* Monmouth - W*
* More of a possibility of a win versus a prediction.
So there's a possibility of finishing 6-15. That's certainly NOT improvement. This goes far beyond disappointment given the make-up of this team. That is all.

I'm not predicting that Billy gets canned at the end of the season, but I will say that we now have an AD that's not going to put up with a lot of Bullsh!+. I expect this level of production will not go on for another 3 years.

Hope you all have recovered from the cluster that was that game last night, can’t imagine I was the only one who had to crack open a few cold ones to make it to the end. Last night’s game was a complete and utter defecation festival, with Pat Skerry dropping a steaming pile of coaching dominance all over Billy Taylor and our hapless coaching staff. it’s clear that Billy is completely in over his head, that zone defense resulted in some of the worst rebounding I’ve ever seen, of which he made no adjustments. For those hoping Billy is shown the door I have zero faith in the two women we have making this pivotal decision, keep in mind Dave Blank helped with the search for our new AD which is an immediate red flag. I fear the darkest days are ahead for the program. Rise Phoenix! Class of ‘82

It’s so revealing when you can moan and complain nonstop after losses but can’t say one positive thing after one the biggest wins in program history.

Two of the six final regular season games are in the book with WINS!! Not only that, they were the games I thought would be the most difficult to win, especially an away game against the number one team in the conference! Happy & impressed!!

EPX, this was in no way towards you. You are here win, lose, or draw. I understand being frustrated because let’s be honest, we have a losing record. However, when you can’t acknowledge the big wins but are simply waiting for the team to lose, I think that is pretty sad. With that being said, I expect this team to at least win 2 of the last 4. They are going to be on a high and hopefully that can lead to finishing with some great basketball.

I didn't take it that way. But it needed to be said. I don't know if the athletes or coaches even look at this site, but in the off chance they do, they need to know that this site's members are diehard fans not d!cks, and we appreciate hard work and positive results.

I hope we can at least win the Northeastern and W&M games. I watched part of the Stony Brook vs Monmouth game. Monmouth looks pretty good and they also like to play fast. It should be a good final home game.

I'm really proud of the team the past two games. They are playing much better and showed a ton of heart last night. The coaching staff, which I feel was 90% of the problem during the slump, seems to have the team better prepared as well. I was just as happy as anyone else on that put back last night and have continued supporting the team.
I can only speak for myself, but I'd stopped posting the past few weeks because I don't like being so negative on here. I didn't have much good to say. The results weren't good and quite frankly deserved our frustration. I am always careful not to name players or throw them under the bus. The coaches are getting paid to do a job. Right or wrong, the criticisms on this board pale in comparison to bigger programs. If you want people to be invested then that's what you get.
With that said, we're not even a week removed from our worst conference performance (Towson) of the season. So tempering expectations. I've been burned year after year with Elon basketball. Taylor is getting a 3rd year and probably more, so it's in all of our best interests for him to succeed. Otherwise we're another 3-5 years away from where we want to be.
Feeling good for now and more optimistic than a week ago. Need to sustain this through the end of the season and build on it next season.
Go Phoenix!
